Shell Malaysia today announced a new contest, dubbed ‘Shell Win Free Fuel’, in which up to 10,000 dedicated customers stand a chance to walk home with a share of over RM2 million worth of free fuel. The contest kicks off on December 23 2014 and will go one for 12 weeks before ending on March 15 2015.

To participate, patrons are required to purchase a minimum of RM30 worth of any Shell petrol or diesel, including Shell FuelSave and Shell V-Power at any Shell station located across the nation. Following that, it’s as simple as answering one question and attaching the original receipt on the contest form.

“At Shell Malaysia, we are committed to helping Malaysians make smarter spending choices on the road and in life. We understand that the rakyat are concerned with the rising cost of living, and we see this as an opportunity to ease their burden and give them one less thing to think about,” said Tuan Haji Azman Ismail, managing director of Shell Malaysia Trading and Shell Timur.

For each month throughout the contest period, three grand prize winners will be announced, with every one of them going home with up to RM10,000 worth of a year’s free fuel. In addition to that, a total of 835 customers will stand a chance to win RM200 worth of fuel each week.

At the launch of the contest, Shell also showcased its Select deli2go mobile store – constructed out of a recycled shipping container – which offers customers a wide variety of refreshments, ranging from “baked gourmet pastries and scrumptious hotdogs to premium brewed coffee.”

Is that all Shell can give? They are making billions in Malaysia. Now even more because they are charging an extra 80 sen per litre sold.

I have been with Shell for the past 30 years and I am involved with pricing/finance. The exact formula for petrol is as below. Global Brent is now USD60 per barrel

If Global Brent is USD60.00/barrel = RM210 per barrel.

      210/159 = RM1.32/ltr (per barrel has 159 litres)

Before refining charge and petrol dealer profit petrol is RM1.32/ltr

There is no way petrol can even be more than RM1.50 as Brent Crude has fallen to its lowest. If they are truly doing a proper float system, the actual price is RM1.32 per litre if per barrel is US$60.

Then we add the two other elements which is 1) Refining Cost and 2) Petrol dealer Untung. The maximum for refining cost is 10 sen per litre. That is the Maximum ceiling for refining based on global refining charges and profits. Petrol dealer profit usually also about 10 sen per litre.

So, petrol should be about RM1.52 per litre. Shell is making a lot of money from Malaysians. Better give Malaysians better gifts than one year free petrol Shell

Petronas Made about RM50 billion this year. So, can presume Shell also made around the same or more.

        1 billion is 1000 million.
        50 billion is ……

And they give ONLY RM2 million to the rakyat for their support?

Please remember to add RM0.58 sen per litre on G petroleum sales tax , so RM1.52+RM0.58 =RM2.10. O…it is the price now actually + 16 sen to cover the last 2 years G subsidy. Reimburasable subsidy.

If that is the case, why are all petrol companies selling at the same price? So you should blame all petrol companies. Anyway your calculations does not make sense, since our fuel and diesel price are one of the lowest in the region.

I don’t think you work for Shell. If you are, you are really brave giving out statements like that. I would love to be proven wrong in this case

Thanks to your 101 calculation however it used the wrong fundamental reference. You don’t count petrol price using the crude Brent posting. Instead, try again using MOPS RON95 as marker and FYI, any difference between your numbers with the pump price, that’s what you are “subsidizing” the Govt. as tax (as of current).

Oil companies are so stingy. Last time, they used to have contest to win BMW or Mercedes. It was fun filling up their forms.

Now, their first prize (Petronas for example) is LED TV. That also, 32 inch LED.

Come on Petronas, you think I got no money to buy 32 inch LED TV ah?

Have anyone here ever won something from those Shell contests? I’ve participated in various contests and have won in some of them but never did I ever get to win something from Shell after all these years…hmmm.

deli2go is a nice concept. Even nicer offerings. I have only one problem. For takeaways, they put the food directly into plastic bags. Come on! Use paper bags please….
