Ford says GST will not impact Malaysian car launches

Ford does not expect the April 1 implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to encroach on its plan of introducing new cars into Malaysia, according to a report by Bernama.

The national news agency quoted Ford’s marketing director for Malaysia and Asia Pacific emerging markets, David Westerman, as saying that the company will not speculate on the potential impact of GST and other government policies.

“We’ll have to wait and see. Like other businesses, we regularly review pricing,” he said. “The implementation (of GST) will not change our plan to continue introducing vehicles that offer value for money by delivering best-in-class combinations of quality, performance, smart technologies, safety and fuel economy.”

Westerman added that the company supported policies that were simple, transparent and did not provide competitive advantages or disadvantages among brands.

Ford has previously confirmed that it would be bringing in three new cars this year – the Mondeo, the Everest and the Mustang. The last of these cars was previewed at Publika last week, and the Mondeo will be available for test drives starting at Bangsar Shopping Centre from April 1-11.

True that. Never know GST was already included before announcing the price…or…somehow the money will be going into someone else’s pocket.

In other words, Ford Malaysia will not be lowering its prices at all even though there is potentially some savings when moving to GST. It will only increase their profit margin

I think most of us are more concerned on the price than new launches…

Buying a manual is not to show to the people how manly you are. My mum drive manual most of her life and she is a woman.
I assume you won’t buy another manual because you like to relax while driving, most of the time stuck in traffic jam or have a weak left leg.
