2016 Toyota Hilux pick-up slated for May 21 debut

It’s no surprise that the 2016 Toyota Hilux is on the way, with spyshots of a prototype running about and even a leaked brochure of the truck itself circulating cyberspace. Now, Hilux Revo Thailand reports that the eighth-generation pick-up truck will make its debut on May 21 with Thai sales slated to commence later this year.

Aside from its new looks, the 2016 Hilux has been reported to arrive on the scene with two new engines – a 2.4 litre and 2.8 litre engine, both turbocharged diesel units. Power outputs for the 2.4 VNT (Variable Nozzle Turbo) mill are expected to hover about the 150 PS/343 Nm mark with a five-speed manual transmission and 167 PS/400 Nm with the six-speed automatic gearbox.

The larger 2.8 litre mill is touted to displace a total of 177 PS and 420 Nm of torque when paired to a manual gearbox, the automatic adds on another 30 Nm. Looks wise, expect quite the makeover with brochures indicating a revised front grille design. Elsewhere, the headlights, lower air intake and fog lamp assemblies receive a more contemporary touchup, as well.

On the inside, significant changes are touted with the inclusion of a tablet-like touchscreen display and a rejuvenated dash layout. Not too long before the full reveal now, stay tuned everyone.

I hope before it introduce here, Euro 4 Diesel is available, because if not we “Malaysian” will be STUCK with old technology plus with “stone age” gearbox. A very clear example is New Triton, LUARAN semua baru, tapi underneath” all OLD!!!! But the worst part is: pay for All-New price. Don’t blame the car makers bloggers, blame our quality fuel. I wish Paultan employee will “push” hard for us, and we drivers can do our part too but boycott buying pick-up trucks then Makers will pressure Oil Companies to introduce it earlier. Since our Government already announce Oil Companies can introduce quality fuel anytime they wish!!!!
Ok if some say the cost, Euro 4 in Johor only increase 5cents (correct me if I’m wrong) but u must think Euro 4 is far more economical & less wear & tear in long run, therefore it will save in long run.
    ~thank you~ for reading.

It is very easy to squeeze abit of power from diesel turbos especially with 30-50Nm without much stress.
Reason for more boost, transmission power loss.

    • Reliability? Isuzu is much better. Even previous toyota engine, 2L, 3L & 5L suffer burning gasket & lost compression. However Isuzu 4Ja1, 4JB1 has no problem to run a million km.
Kd engines of toyota, timing belt. Injector problems. Auto gearbox problem. 4JJ1 & 4JK1 Isuzu, clock 300,000km not a single problem yet.
