BMW has released this brilliant clip to show the generation-by-generation evolution of the 7 Series lineup. It starts off from the original E23 from 1977, and goes on to morph into the 1986 E32, 1994 E38, 2001 E65, 2008 F01, to finally turn into the all-new G11/G12 7 Series.
It certainly makes for a very interesting viewing – even for non-BMW fans – seeing just how far the flagship sedan has changed through the years. The new-for-2015 G11/G12 is clearly the most advanced of the lot, which it decidedly needs to be to take on the latest W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
We’ll have to wait and see if it can match or even surpass the all-conquering S-Class. For now, though, let’s just focus on the way it looks compared to its predecessors. Tell us which one’s your favourite BMW 7 Series, and why. Let’s see how many Chris Bangle fans we have among us, shall we?

The new bmw 7 series is in a beautiful and stunning car.But my favourite 7 series is the e65
This G11/G12 will be a failure in Malaysia like the last 7 series. The last 7 series sales were so bad.
The 7 series you see on the road now are all Sime Darby director cars. These are not real sales because Sime Darby owns BMW Malaysia and Sime Darby buys the BMWs as company cars for their VP1 and above staff. In a year, Sime Darby group alone buys about 1000 cars as fleet company cars for their VP1 and above staff. Just 7 series alone comes to 40 or 50 units.
That is the bulk of 7 series you see on the road. The remaining you see on the road are what the Government tells BMW Malaysia to sponsor. You see, Sime Darby GLC and Government will just tell BMW Malaysia to sponsor 20 units of 7 series for this G7 la, that Summit la, Langkawi aviation la, this conference la, that delegation la and so on. Then, after the even, the 7 series is sold for half the price to selected cronies. That is the 7 series you see on the road.
BMW Malaysia got no choice but to abide by it or else, habis la BMW Malaysia. Sime Darby will drop BMW as company cars and BMW will have very negligable sales.
bmw group malaysia set the highest sales ever last year for the group. they also sold over 7,000 bmw cars with the bulk of sales contributed by 3 and 5 series, which is their bread and butter models. bmw group were also no.1 in the world for the largest premium auto group. The 7 series has never been a high volume model, so i cant understand how not selling a lot of 7 series cars will trouble bmw malaysia…
Every BMW posts you post the same thing, if you don’t like BMW then don’t buy la
Yes, I am Mercedes Benz salesman, cut and paste and post the same thing at all BMW’s post is our job.
Copy and paste comment again. What are u trying to prove, pal? Whether the new model is going to be popular or not, it’s still too early to say. The E65 was deeply unpopular when first launched but went on to be the most popular 7-Series ever.
The new bmw 7 series is indeed a beautiful and stunning car.But my favourite 7 series is the e65
Just reminds you how bangled up the Bangled era of the 7 series was…
Just a big no for that rear. NOPE NOPE NOPE.
6 series > 7 series
I think this 7er by far looks a lot better than its predecessors combined all together and the interior is…wow I just like the tablet control system that can control almost anything in the car.
On a side note with the recent increase of warranty to 5 years I hope BMW Malaysia and its dealer network is ready to receive more warranty claims from owners. I’m already finding it difficult to secure a courtesy car as my car is going in for a few days on a defective part problem so much so I had to shoot an email to BMW Voice after the dealer that was handling my case was reluctant to source me one car to use while I’m left with no transport.
I like the bangle one the most.
Well, you don’t have to agree with me.
But the stats will tell you that, that was the only era where BMW outsell the Merc.
What era are you talking about?
BMW already outsells Mercedes for the past 10years.
Bangle’s 5,7, Z and 6 are not the worst looking cars on the road, but lose their lustre fast. Fast-aging designs.
But… Would i ever buy a 7-series? Why would i buy a huge sedan; no matter how great the handling, comfort is? I’ve nothing to compensate for…. so I have no opinion on the 7.
I’d take the cash and splurge on an Alfa and a Miata. But, thats a totally a different story
