Besides the usual presence of the police and the Road Transport Department (JPJ), one can expect to see an army of Skuad Muda 1JPJ members on the roads this Raya season. The Road Transport Department will mobilise some 50,570 of the youth volunteers in a bid to reduce road accidents during the upcoming festive period, Bernama reports.
JPJ director-general Datuk Ariffin Che Ahmad said that the youths will be stationed in huts to be built at 50 km intervals on major roads, such as the Kuala Lumpur-Gua Musang-Kota Baharu stretch.
“Four people will be placed in each hut to assist JPJ members in giving advice and distributing road safety leaflets,” he told reporters after closing a One Community 1JPJ programme at SK Cherang Ruku in Pasir Puteh, where he presented B2 class licences to 436 motorcyclists. No mention of summonses.
Last month, JPJ said that its road safety awareness campaign focusing on motorcyclists will be continued via Skuad Muda 1JPJ activities. The programme, which has signed up over 170,000 members in collaboration with over 200 motoring associations, not only provides road safety awareness but nurtures the spirit of volunteerism and patriotism among its members.
The programme, which began in 2013, was set up to get the volunteers to learn about traffic regulations and road safety aspects. It was also planned for the them to assist JPJ enforcement officers during operations as well as being the eyes on the road for the department by monitoring road users and reporting traffic offences.

50,570 youths to assist JPJ members in giving advice and distributing road safety leaflets…
Maybe I’m not that sophisticated but can anyone explained to me on how these will help to reduce road accident? After all, advice has been given for the pass few decasdes and it doesn’t work.
JPJ & traffice police already have their best weapons, issue summons to those who break the law and haul up those who do not pay up. THIS IS WAY MORE EFFECTIVE!! Don’t need to invent new “initiative”.
It is all about burning money, digging it from public account into your private wallet.
Now 50k youth can collect free duit raya. Per day at least can collect Rm1k each
duit raya, duit raya, duit raya
i wonder how much they pay these “volunteers”.
Or are they really starting them young to be independent to look for other sources of “income”
Plot twist – these youths are actually mat and minah rempits. Taking them off the road to do community service will help reduce traffic incidences.
Young turks standing under sun… along
dangerous highway lanes…monitoring…
A bad idea to legalize the illegal rempits. They will not help reduce accidents but thinking they are now authorities, will start threatening normal road users to follow their interpretation of the law.
who’s wanna work without pay during Raya?
How can these ” Skuad Muda” do to reduce accident? more road blocks along the roads? i think it will cause only bad traffic jam.
Anybody wanna take me up on a bet that there’s gonna be some sort of drama with these ‘youths’ and the general public?
Putting responsibilities on people without properly checking their background will inevitably lead to an unwanted incident. If anything, the JPJ should assist on making sure that there is smooth traffic for those who are going to be going back to their hometowns during the festive season to avoid jams and such.
Reduce road accident, REALLY!
Look good but whether it will it suceed or not and how much rakyat money get burn again? don’t know.
i hope their seniors wont teach them how to ‘settle’ on the spot…
