Subaru BRZ, WRX STI Series.HyperBlue limited edition

Subaru of America has announced the 2016 “Series.HyperBlue” limited edition for the BRZ and WRX STI. The cars feature exterior paint in Subaru’s exclusive Hyper Blue with matching interior trim. Production will be limited to 700 WRX STI and 500 BRZ cars for the USA.

The 2016 model year BRZ comes with a 6.2-inch multimedia system with single-touch gesture display, HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio and Bluetooth. Smartphone integration features Aha and Pandora, along with Starlink cloud apps iHeartRadio, Stitcher, Calendar, Music Player, News and Weather. A standard reverse camera is new for 2016.

The Series.HyperBlue BRZ cabin gets leather and Alcantara upholstery with Hyper Blue seat bolsters and head restraints. Blue stitching accents the seats and the blue/black leather-wrapped wheel, as well as the shift lever boot and parking brake handle.

The blue motif carries to the centre console kneepads, door trim and carpets, while there’s an embroidered silver BRZ logo on the front seatbacks. Outside, the 17-inch alloys and wing mirrors are in black.

The 2.5L turbo AWD WRX STI gets blue stitching to the standard Alcantara seats, leather wrapped wheel, shifter boot, console as well as carpets with the STI logo. Series.HyperBlue cars wear 18-inch BBS black alloys and black mirror caps.

A Starlink 7.0-inch multimedia navigation system with nine Harman/Kardon speakers and a 440-watt amplifier is standard, as are keyless entry with push start and PIN code access and welcome entry.

Nice colour, and a refreshing change from WR Blue, but not as nice as the BRZ tS that was recently revealed in Japan. Only 300 units of the STI-tuned Toyota 86 twin sister will be made, featuring STI suspension and wheels, upgraded Brembo brakes, Recaro seats and plenty of STI badges, plus cherry red accents.

Both the BRZ and WRX/WRX STI are officially available in Malaysia.
