VIDEO: 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in new teaser clip

The upcoming 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport hasn’t been one of the industry’s best kept secrets, with patent images leaked earlier and recently spotted in the flesh, while undergoing a TVC shoot. This time, the new Pajero Sport has been officially teased in Thailand to get the ball rolling for its August 1 debut.

This new clip, which is much more revealing than the snapshots taken previously, shows the front and side profiles of the new seven-seat SUV clearly. It’s all rather futuristic, as some may put it, with its sweeping lines and Mitsubishi’s latest ‘Dynamic Shield’ styling on the front end, as seen on the latest Outlander.

The biggest reveal here perhaps would be the SUV’s taillamps, which run all the way down to the bottom of the tailgate. It certainly answers one question: those aren’t just reflectors (thankfully) – the red tail strips are in fact the Pajero Sport’s LED brake lights. Wouldn’t be hard to spot on the road when the sun goes down, this.

The new Pajero Sport will be based on the latest Mitsubishi Triton, and its rivals will include the new Toyota Fortuner, itself based on the Toyota Hilux. In Malaysia, the present-generation Pajero Sport is powered by a 2.5 litre commonrail diesel engine that makes 136 PS and 314 Nm, or a 2.5 litre four-cylinder VGT common-rail turbodiesel that produces 178 PS and 350 Nm of torque.

Current prices for the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GL is RM150,277.60, while the Pajero Sport VGT is priced at RM171,211.60. How much do you think this new big guy will cost when it arrives?

  • i’m planning to change from sedan to SUV like this pajero sport. Our Klang Valley roads are like competing with sabah sarawak on worst roads with potholes in Malaysia. SUVs like pajero sport and fortuner are cost effective to own and still serve objectives compared to ugly evoque and pussy santa fe, sorento and etc. 2.5L = affordable roadtax , 350Nm torgue= great in traffic jam and changing lane fast , 7 seaters = better of owning a pickup where <10% the pickup area being utilized. 4×4 = why not? Maintenance affordable = diesel engine so it is robust and straight forward so not much electronics point of failures like in RR or X5 . High body clearance = good for our stupid filled with mega potholes and DAMN SHARP road BUMPS… this is stupid. road bumps nowadays is like building a hill already. Always scraps my sedans even drive very slow on it…

Not sure if I’m wrong but I feel I hardly see a Pajero on the road.

nice front… why cant the designers use this front for the Triton.. why must they ruin it.. it seems like there is no perfect design for Mitsubishi vehicles… when everything seems right, then suddenly there’s certain area that look like shit…

  • Hopefully it’s not tall and narrow looking…very unstable and easy to overturn.

I would say the Fortuner looks like a much better buy. For one, the rear on the Toyota looks much better, I don’t quite like the curved inwards look….

This car tried to use Honda Jazz rear, by flipping it upside down, but it ended up really ugly
