SPIED: All-new robust Audi A4 Allroad spotted testing

Audi-A4-Allroad-1

This is the 2016 Audi A4 Allroad crossover. It’s going to be a real big deal once it all comes together soon. Not quite here in Malaysia, perhaps, but elsewhere. This camouflaged prototype was spotted not long after the unveiling of the B9 A4 sedan and Avant models. It should be making its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016.

Like before, the new A4 Allroad will be a high-riding version of the A4 Avant with unique bumpers and skid plates at both ends, along with sturdy SUV-style body cladding around the wheel arches and lower edges. Like a rugged look but not quite sold on the Q5 SUV? Then this is the one for you.

Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system will of course be the star of the show, fitted as standard across the A4 Allroad range. Engine choices should range from a 2.0 litre TFSI power plant with 190 hp and 320 Nm of torque to a 3.0 litre V6 TDI with 272 hp and 600 Nm of torque.

There is speculation that Mercedes-Benz could also be entering the fray with a jacked-up version of the its C-Class Estate too. Reports suggest that a high-riding C-Class wagon could arrive as early as 2017, so this segment could become a very tightly contested area with a range of marques battling for outright supremacy.
