2015 Ford Mustang – UK pricing, specs, sales update

Ford Mustang Fastback and Convertible Euro

Ford has reported that nearly 2,000 orders have rolled in for the 2015 Ford Mustang in the UK since the beginning of the year. The automaker says that 80% of UK customers have opted for the fastback body style over the convertible, and 70% have specified the 5.0 litre V8 GT version over the 2.3 litre EcoBoost model.

In terms of transmissions, 55% of the buyers have specified the S550 in its six-speed Ford/Getrag MT-82 manual guise – the sixth-gen pony car is also available with a ZF-based 6R80 SelectShift auto gearbox with paddle shifters.

Like their European Mustang cousins, the power output of the UK right-hand drive Mustang variants differ slightly from their American siblings – the 5.0 Coyote mill has 416 PS (revised from an inital 418 PS) and 524 Nm, which is slightly down from the 421 PS and 530 Nm in the LHD Euro version (and quite a bit less than the 435 hp – or 441 PS – and 542 Nm in the North American car) that broke cover in May.

According to Autocar, Ford says the slight reduction in power output from the LHD car is due to the location of the steering assembly on the right-hand side of the engine, the placement of which has meant that a new exhaust manifold has been needed. This hasn’t altered performance though.

No changes to the output of the 2.3 EcoBoost, which follows the European specifications of 317 PS and 432 Nm of torque, which is a slight increase over the American output of 310 hp and 434 Nm.

Over half of UK Mustangs have been specified with the Custom Pack (or the Equipment Group 401A pack in the US spec car), which includes satellite navigation, a Shaker Pro 12-speaker audio system, heated and cooled front seats, a rear view camera, Luster Nickel silver alloy wheels and extra chrome detailing on fastback models.

ford mustang uk picks

As for colours, Race Red is the cherry pick, accounting for 23% of the orders, with Magnetic Silver and Shadow Black joint second-choice with 16.1% each and Deep Impact Blue next at 10.7%. Ten exterior shades are available in the UK colour palette. Pricing for the Mustang in the UK begins from £29,995 (RM197,000) for the EcoBoost and £33,995 (RM227,000) for the V8 GT.

The S550 Mustang is due to make its way to Malaysia at the end of the year for a January 2016 debut – a US-spec 5.0L GT was previewed here in March, and the order books have already opened for the car. Specifications-wise, our cars should follow the Australian specs quite closely.

In June, it was reported that indicative pricing for the Mustang was between RM435,000 to RM450,000 for the 2.3L EcoBoost and RM550,000 to RM565,000 for the 5.0L V8, both on-the-road without insurance. There’s every likelihood of it changing yet again, given the Ringgit’s absolutely lovely performance in the past month or so.

Read our Ford Mustang review, which covers both 2.3L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 variants.
