The Mclaren P1 GTR Driver Programme has commenced at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain. Round one of what is, arguably, one of the most exclusive ownership programmes sees a total of seven owners of the McLaren P1 GTR take to the track under the tutelage of a dedicated McLaren Special Operations (MSO) support team.
The latter group is comprised of individuals such as McLaren Automotive’s chief test driver, Chris Goodwin, ex-F1 pilot, Bruno Senna and such. “The McLaren P1 GTR Driver Programme takes this offering to another level, providing owners with a unique experience, designed around each individual,” said MSO executive director, Paul Mackenzie.
“No two drivers are the same, and this programme is bespoke to each skill set, with our team of professional driver coaches, engineers and technicians working closely with the drivers, as they would in a top flight motorsport team,” added Mackenzie. “This ensures the programme is adjusted accordingly to allow for the best to be seen of each driver and each car.”
Aside from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain, the McLaren P1 GTR Drive Programme will also see owners and the team travel to various countries around the world to sample the best circuits each location has to offer. The list includes the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, the Silverstone circuit in the UK and the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia amongst many more.
To recap, the McLaren P1 GTR is based on the already insane McLaren P1 hypercar with the most obvious difference being the fact that the latter is a road-going unit while the former is a track-only monster. Elsewhere, the twin-turbocharged 3.8 litre V8 engine puts out a total of 800 PS while an additional 200 PS comes courtesy of a lightweight electric motor.
