The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) has urged the government to prepare a special allocation in Budget 2016 for road safety efforts.
According to a report from The Star, MIROS stated that as many as 7,000 Malaysian motorists die in road accidents yearly. Its chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, said motorcyclists accounted for 65% of the victims.
He also pointed out that Budget 2016 has allocated funds for road construction and infrastructure work. During the announcement of Budget 2016, the government said it will perform upgrading works of the rural road network worth RM1.4 billion.
The government also assigned RM200 million to improve roads in Felda settlements, plus another RM900 million for the Jalan Tun Razak Traffic Dispersal Programme.
Lee acknowledges the importance of these allocations as several Federal roads were regarded as high risk and are due for repairs and upgrading works. However, he hopes that the government would cast an eye on road safety and direct some funds there as well.
The funds would be channeled towards intensifying research on road safety and for the Road Safety Department to educate and create awareness among motorists.

ok, berapa billions kamu nak? don’t worry i will increase tol fees to compensate.
Money for research hahaha, smart ass …
I think the government should introduce road safety in primary school but very light, interesting and fun subject. As this will help the kids to remind their parents regarding road safety and encourage the parents to follow the traffic rules and signs.
you are right. it all starts with education.
LLT, evrrytime big accident happend tis guy writes very long boring letter to the media which nobody reads…everytime same story..but noting happens coz he powerless…so seek budget for wat? buy new expensive pen to write more letters?? just fix those potholes and replace those steel dividers which had speared impaled many motorist
Save more money by closing down MIROS and JKJR.
Talk only, no results.
We need to revamp the driving school, not another road safety advocate agency.
After my personal audit, 95% of MIROS and JKJR also drive wrongly.
