Following the launch of the Renault Kwid last year, today saw the world premiere of two concepts at the New Delhi Auto Show, the Kwid Climber and the Kwid Racer. Designed to compete both on and off-road, the pair of Kwids aim to showcase the potential and adaptability of Renault’s small car concept.
Designed for off-road capability, the Kwid Climber features high ground clearance, big bumpers, side protective mouldings, and generous, diamond-effect wheels. The deep Flame Orange finish underscores the sculpted lines of the body while the wheel arches are finished in electric blue.
While the Climber takes care of business on the rough side of things, the Racer comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, low-profile tyres, honed aerodynamics, bucket seats and a roll cage, as befits its racing nature. The interior features materials like Alcantara, aluminium and carbon and the Titane black trim is emphasised by touches of anodised red, evoking the glamour of motor-racing.
Designed to be affordable for the Indian market, the road-going Kwid now comes with a brand new 1.0 litre SCe engine mated to Renault’s Easy-R five-speed automatic gearbox. The base Kwid is powered by an 800 cc three-cylinder that puts out 53 hp through a five-speed manual box. Prices are 256,968 rupees (RM15,900) for the base model and 353,131 rupees (RM21,900) for the top-of-line RXT.
