Audi has dropped yet another teaser of its next Q model, said to be known as the Audi Q1 (or Q2, following the brand’s success at securing the naming rights). The 16-second clip briefly depicts the compact SUV dashing through an off-road path, before the words “#untaggable, the next Q…” appear.
It isn’t much of a giveaway, but full details will soon be revealed as we approach the model’s debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Then, it will join Audi’s existing Q models (Q7, Q5, Q3) as the baby of its SUVs – even smaller than the BMW X1 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
Reports suggest that the next Audi Q model will be underpinned by an SUV variation of the Volkswagen Group’s modular MQB platform. As such, front-wheel drive will be a standard affair, while a quattro all-wheel drive is likely to feature on higher-spec variants.
We don’t expect to see the Q1 break too many traditions where Audi design is concerned. We imagine that a lot of the car’s exterior will be inspired by the brand’s latest SUVs, like the Q3 and Q7. Petrol and diesel engine options are a certainty, and likely to include a petrol 1.0 litre three-cylinder TFSI and 1.4 four-pot TFSI, as well as 1.6 and 2.0 TDI four-cylinder diesels.
