Second-gen Audi A5 gets teased again with more GIFs

Audi is back with a slew of new teasers for its upcoming A5 Coupe. Set to make its global premiere on June 2, the various GIFs uploaded by the German carmaker reveal what to expect with the coupe.

Still adopting the hashtag ‘#SoGehtCoupe’ or ‘#NowThatsACoupe’, the first of the GIFs reveals the darkened silhouette of the A5 Coupe that appears to be more aerodynamic compared to the outgoing model, which has a drag coefficient of 0.29. Audi’s latest Singleframe grille design also appears to be part of the design overhaul as well.

Beside said grille, the A5 Coupe’s headlamps are also revealed via another GIF. Here, the units are differentiated from those on the B9 A4 sedan, with a more conventional trapezoidal design. The graphics and LED DRLs are also redesigned. Keeping in line with the current Audi lighting offerings, xenon, LED, and matrix LED headlamps will likely be offered.

In another GIF, we are shown a glimpse of the car’s rear haunches, accompanied by the hashtag ‘NowThatsMuscles’. No points for guessing what Audi is trying to suggest here, as the A5 Coupe will likely have a more defined, muscular look to it, retaining the distinctive “wavy” shoulder line of the original. We’ll have to wait and see just what Walter de Silva’s creation will look like in full later on.

Underneath the new bodywork, the new A5 Coupe will likely be lighter than the current A5 thanks to its adoption of the MLB Evo platform. Furthermore, another GIF reveals adaptive damping suspension will be offered. On the B9 A4 sedan, the system allows the car’s ride height to be lowered by 10 mm, adjustable via Audi drive select.

It’s safe to say that Audi’s 3.0 litre V6 TDI will be part of the new A5 Coupe’s engine line-up as revealed in a GIF. However, petrol units like the 2.0 litre TFSI will most likely be offered as well. Transmission options may include a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch unit, with two-wheel drive and quattro all-wheel drive.

As for the cabin, Audi’s virtual cockpit – a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster – will be available. Based on earlier spyshots of the A5 Coupe, the rest of the interior will feature a minimalist-style design, with more streamlined controls.

The coupe sister to the B9 A4 will look to take on the BMW 4 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe. After the A5 Coupe, Audi will look to follow up with Cabriolet and Sportback variants, which have been caught testing.

I’m seriously hoping that all the gadgets will be available when it is launched here. Plus the Quattro and a good 2.0 liter engine.
