The next-generation Audi A7 is already in the works, as our spy photographers have managed to capture a prototype of the vehicle for the very first time. Although the grainy photos of the heavily-camouflaged test mule reveal very little about the upcoming sedan, a few prominent details do stand out.
Firstly, the A7’s fastback design will continue to feature here, although it appears that the current car’s tail design has been replaced with something a little less “droopy.” There also appears to be a pop-up rear spoiler deployed in some shots as well.
At the front, the latest iteration of the carmaker’s Singleframe grille, as seen on the new A4 and A5, is coupled with slimmer head lamps. Expect a few additional lines to be added to the sedan for a more muscular look as well.
Under the new metal, the next-gen A7 will be underpinned by the MLB Evo platform, which is also used on the Q7 and the upcoming next-gen A8. The platform will likely see the A7 lose a few kilos compared to the current-gen model, and yield some improvements in terms of driving dynamics as well.
A selection of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines will likely serve as motivation for the new A7, with the possibility of a plug-in hybrid drivetrain being offered in the near future. Expect a seven-speed S tronic transmission and quattro permanent all-wheel drive to be mated to the engines as well.
