Smart home integration technologies such as Amazon Echo bring voice command convenience with the Alexa voice service, which now extends to taking command of the Genesis G80 and G90 – to an extent. “With this innovative Alexa implementation, customers can now start their car, and get the heat going all just by asking Alexa from the comfort of their own home,” said Steve Rabuchin, VP of Amazon Alexa.

Available across Alexa-enabled devices, the new Alexa skill for the Genesis utilises voice services on Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Amazon Tap while working with Genesis Connected Services, which enables the car to carry out voice-activated commands without needing the driver to operate buttons.

To have the service configured, users must first enable the Genesis skill in the Alexa app – available across iOS, Android and Fire operating systems – and then link their Genesis Connected Services account with the Alexa app. Owners will be prompted for the Genesis Connnected Services PIN before sending voice commands to the Genesis vehicles.

The voice commands that Alexa can receive for the Genesis include remote starting with a set temperature, remote starting and stopping, remote locking and unlocking, and remote light activation. The Genesis also comes with its own Remote package within its Connected Services, which also includes a car finder via the mobile app, stolen vehicle recovery/slowdown/immobilisation, as well as three vehicle safeguard alerts: geo-fencing, valet alert and a speed/curfew alert.

  • Decidedly cool. But I guess the more connectivity and intelligence you have the higher the risk of being hacked. Hope they have got the security scheme figured out to counter the always evolving hacking threats.
