Toyota 86 860 Special Edition – colour, trim, kit for US

Toyota is releasing a special edition of the Toyota 86 in the US, where it was formerly known as the Scion FR-S before the “young man brand” got shut down. The 860 Special Edition refers to the production total for the SE – 860 units in Halo White and another 860 in Supernova Orange. Pictured here, the latter an exclusive 860 Special Edition colour.

Both white and orange cars get black racing stripes down the middle, black door mirror caps, a black rear wing and black-chrome finished 17-inch alloys. Inside, the seats are covered in black leather with orange contrast stitching – this combo can also be found on the dashboard, door panels, steering wheel, handbrake and gear gaiter.

On the equipment front, the 860 Special Edition introduces push button start, dual-zone auto air con, heated seats and a larger MID screen in the instrument panel, which includes g-meter and lap-timer functions. Might not sound special, but the Toyota 86 carried over the Scion FR-S’ single trim line in the US, and customers there had to make do with a more modestly equipped sports car. The 860 Special Edition brings kit count to the level of the Subaru BRZ Limited.

No mechanical changes to the 205 hp, 2.0 litre boxer engined coupe. 860 SE prices start from US$30,040 (RM133,617) for the six-speed manual, rising to US$30,760 (RM136,820) for the six-speed automatic. That’s a premium of slightly below US$3k over the regular car. Meanwhile, we’ll continue to wait for the reunion of The Three Brothers.

The article says – the Toyota 86 customers there had to make do with a more modestly equipped “sports car.”

Is this a Sports Car ??! It may be a special edition Toyota 86 & drive nicely as we all know but I think a Performance Coupe is more appropriate to be called. What do U guys think ??!

        • U not old to remember, when beetle came to US, almost all cars back then was 2 doors even sedans.

Sportscar term only came in the 70s-80s, when sedan shifted to 4 doors alredi. Pretty much all 2 doors sold since is classified as sportscars

IMHO, cars like this as well as the mazda mx5 RF are sport car by definition, every other reviewers refer them as sportcar. if you ever driven one in a crazy way, you won’t ask this question. Keep the momentum while u r at it.

I understand & I know your point. I did own a Mazda B8 4-WD turbo(in the 90’s) with 210 H/P before. I did not call it a sports car then & i certainly do Not call it a sports car now.

I call my B8 a Hot hatch then. Maybe the word Sports Car are too loosely used now. Anyway, thanks 4 your input. As long as we comment without intention to show off, that’s what I call sharing of info.

For me, this is just an overhyped & overrated (and overpriced in Malaysia) Toyota….

It was selected Car of Year 2012 by Top Gears. I know you probably hadn’t even sat in the car before, it is ok. Ppl usually say the same thing before they drove the 86.

Why so expensive in Malaysia? Ask your beloved Proton! Someone has to pay the RM1.5b soft loan anyway.

From your statement, we know you can’t even afford a civic. So stop dreaming so many IF, live within your mean.

No turbo no talk. Toyota produces dinosaur technology car. This car cannot compete with any of the turbo powered cars out there.
