With the first race of the Toyota Vios Challenge set to take place this coming weekend (August 12-13) at the Batu Kawan Stadium in Penang, here’s more information about the track where 40 participants will compete in the one-make race series.
Covering a length of 1.65 km, the track features a total of 11 turns as well as a generous number of straight sections. Participants will be placed in one of three racing classes – Super Sporting Category, Sporting Category and Promotional Category – where those with a successful racing record are moved into the first elite class (Super Sporting Category).
Meanwhile, the Sporting Category class will include 17 racers and the remaining ten will be in the Promotional Category class. Regardless, each category will have two heats with points being awarded for top positions in each heat.
All participants will be driving a specially-prepared Toyota Vios race car by Wing Hin Motorsports, based on the Vios 1.5J MT. Among the modifications done include an aerodynamic kit, exhaust system, clutch and limited-slip differential (LSD), suspension system, brake pads and a 10% bump in power from the 2NR-FE four-cylinder engine.
Other revisions include 15-inch Enkei rims shod with Toyo Proxes tyres (195/50), a Motec C125 racing display, a fire suppression system, OMP Corsica Superleggero steering wheel, OMP First-R racing seat and tow hooks (front and back), tower bar and lower brace bars, and a full roll cage.
The race will be the headlining event during the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Racing Festival, which also offers plenty of other activities – meet and greet sessions with TGR celebrities, drift shows and many more – to members of the public. Ppl driving 1.5 car like to race.I’m the streets. They don’t mind narrow race track or short straights. After all, its not like they are driving a car with v12 engines

Exactly. Why do we need LSD in a Vios? Syok sendiri. This car is already underpowered tin kosong. What can a 10% bump do? You want to compete with a VW GTI? Empty vessel makes the loudest noise, and so is Toyota. No wonder sales of Toyota is plunging here in Malaysia. People are opting for Honda or VW
