BMW’s new Z4 Concept is set to make its world debut at the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach today, but the official images of the roadster have been leaked, the reveal being made via Bimmerfile.
The car displays elements of the new design language seen on the Concept 8 Series study, with an outline offering a distinct wedge shape. Styling cues include a short bonnet and overhangs, placing the driver closer to the centre of the vehicle than in the E85 and E89 Z4s.
The concept – which sits on 20-inch twin five-spoke wheels – wears an Energetic Orange frozen exterior paint finish, which the automaker says helps accentuate the three-dimensionality of the exterior in a big way.
The study is effectively a preview of the next-generation Z4, which is being developed together with Toyota – the Japanese company will also have its own car from the joint venture project, a new Supra.
Reports indicate that both cars will share the same platform as well as elements such as the suspension layout, but will feature their makers respective powertrains and drivetrains. Word is also that the BMW will only be offered as a drop-top, and the Toyota a coupe, to keep both offerings distinct.
The production version of the E89 replacement is slated to go on sale next year.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Wah, prestigious BMW can do JV with Toyota to develop this Z4 and Supra.
Shows that Toyota is also a valued company. Two top brains working together to make a common good.
Germans and Japanese work hard, so they produce great sellable things!
And its difficult to see why proton and perodua won’t develop a car together?
Proton makes the chassis and supply powerplant. Both proton and perodua make their own separate bodies.
Don’t forget Lexus which is also another premium brand is under Toyota so it does make sense to work with them.
According to ur logic, it will either be an overpriced toyota or an unreliable toyota.
Looks stunning, although the design reminds me of another BMW model. Are there any technical specifications announced? I would love to know more about the engine..
They are BMW so it’s bound to have some design elements from other models.
But agree with you, it looks stunning. Although the spyshots of it appears rather flat and boring
Iriz’s rim
That is super stunning. Porsche boxster and cayenne have a new competition.
This is by far the best BMW sportscar concept ever produced. But will most of the design elements/lines be carried over to the production version (certainly coupe/hardtop version will be the best)?
Looks like its the latest fashion or in-thing for car manufacturer to crossbreed by having their Best DNA Strand to get a good looking car/offspring.
Smart move by BMW & Toyota. Of course this is not an isolated case. There are many car company collaborating or JV to save cost.
So basically a new Z4 will have Toyota DNA & the new Supra will have BMW DNA. That is a SHARP looking Z4.
Plastik quality of a toyota for price of a Beemer
Plastic quality of Toyota is anytime better than P1. Check a 10 years old Waja with a 10 years old Altis.
Agreed. Check plastic of 10 yearold altis with current altis. Downgrade kaw kaw. Now altis no diff than a Saga.
One of the best concepts to come out of Munich in a long time.
But the colour reminds me too much about the F-Type though.
Lets hope this JV ends up with Toyota reliability and German handling and not the other way around.
Stunning and absolutely sexy. if the prod car has 50% of this cues, it is a winner.
