Zotye T800 patents reveal a Range Rover Sport copy

Zotye Auto, the company responsible for models that strangely resemble more famous ones, is currently in the midst of developing the T800. While that might sound like a product of Cyberdyne Systems (aka Skynet), it is indeed an SUV and not a Terminator (imagine if it was called the T1000).

Patent images of the T800 were recently posted by CarNewsChina, revealing a model that looks eerily similar like the Range Rover Sport (gallery below). As you can see, there are plenty of copied cues on the T800, including the distinct character line that starts from the headlights, and runs through the door handles towards the rear taillights.

Elsewhere, you’ll find the vents in the same position on the bonnet as the Range Rover Sport, which has the same creases as well. Of course, the China-based carmaker did alter a couple of things, but the overall shape of the thing is unmistakable.

Should you think the patents are merely a suggestion, photos of camouflaged test mules reveal that the design will indeed be used. According to the source, the T800 will get a slightly different interior from the British SUV (as seen here), so imitation does have its limits here. It is expected to be powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine with 200 hp, as well as a 2.0 litre hybrid powertrain packing 250 hp.

toyota and BMW had tried to sue them, but came out with nothing. the court asks if the door or taillamp from jinbei era can fit in toyota hiace van of similar look, and the answer was NO. so judge decided no copying involved. not wrong.

Well, Schwarzenegger’s Terminator was the T-800.

Irregardless of what ever they throw at it to stop them, they’d be back with another one in the near future.

Copying is a form of flattery. Regardless, they cannot sue for copying since none of the design elements fit the actual ‘origina’ car. When you patent a design, you patent THE design you sent for patent. Including dimensions, how it works etc. Look at the iphone. They patent the iphone design but still many big brands like Oppo/oneplus, Mi phones have seriously similar rear designs to more recent iphones but they cannot be sued since none of the elements are from the iPhone.
