The new Volvo V60 has been revealed and it’s a beautiful wagon. But as much as car enthusiasts love estates, it’s a niche in Europe and inconsequential elsewhere. The real challenge for the Geely-owned Swedish brand is the sedan market, where it will once again attempt to lure punters away from the German stalwarts – BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4.
We are of course talking about the upcoming next-generation Volvo S60, the sedan sister to the V60. Not much has been said about the new S60 officially, but Volvo did announce that it will be produced at its Charleston, South Carolina plant from 2018, which means that the production new S60 is set to surface this year.
Here’s how we think the new S60 might look like, rendered by Theophilus Chin. No surprises where the influences are from – the just-unveiled V60 and the S90 sedan. The reason is simple – the V60 is smaller scale copy of the V90, with shapelier flanks, and it’s expected that Volvo will also use the Russian doll method for the S60.
So what we have here is essentially a smaller S90 with the V60’s more aggressive front end (lower nose, sharper headlamps with a protruding Thor hammer DRL, deeply sculptured lower bumper) and slightly curvier profile. The rear end you see here is the S90’s. If Volvo decides to use the S90’s behind on the S60, it’ll be polarising – a quick office poll didn’t see many raised hands agreeing with the “incomplete” looking rear of the S90. How about you?
It won’t be the first time Volvo is attempting to shake up the German establishment, and also not the first time Volvo has had beautiful designs (I had a crush on the original S60 T5 in black, on factory multi-spokes), but will it finally succeed this time around?
Just a thought. Volvo fans are some of the fiercest we encountered. If just a fraction of the gushing fans actually went out to buy a new Volvo, sales would be right up there with the big three, no? What’s undeniable is that these new Volvos are safe and sexy.

The sales figure concurred that most buyers are just average or lower middle class income earners which formed bulk of malaysians
So no surprise to see cheaper and affordable like VW sells higher number .

Volvo cars are more reliable than Germans, many end up keep using them. What for change if it still works? Ever heard people joke Volvo being unreliable?
Terrible business model. I guess Volvo needs to make their cars more unreliable to sell better. Throw that Toyota/Lexus gearbox, and plonk in DSG, surely sales will skyrocket as people need to change car more often.

Here’s another thought from a Volvo owner – Maybe sales have been a problem because Volvo owners just aren’t that keen to give up on their existing cars. Mine is 15 years old, still going strong, starts everyday, serviced twice a year and the odd wear item. My dads Volvo is pushing 400,000km. Of course not everyone has the same experience with the brand. Do I need another car? No. Do I want one? Yes, make it another Volvo!

Yet haters spread fake news say Volvo high maintenance, always break down, no RV. All lies, as nobody joked Volvo like people joke Germans’ unreliability, and RV is about on par or better than Germans if people bother to sit down and crunch some numbers. But haters don’t use brain, so of course they don’t know what shit they talk about.
In any case, not like Volvo owners have to die2 depend on RV to afford it. We are men of culture, we don’t have to be that desperate.

TO add more, Volvo now gives more hp than those big three for a more reasonable price, more specs and more safety. I mean look at E-class still use hard plastic for rear aircond and low hp for high price. Im like what???
Last year, one could get the normal BMW 320i for about RM220k. How much would Volvo price it’s S60?
You can find S60 T6 Drive-E for <RM210k after discount. It's got 306hp, way faster than 320i tortoise, way cheaper than its true rival, 330i.

seriously you just need adaptation. I too hate it when i first saw it. But i love it even more. Theres an exception thou, Civic back which i think i will never like.
Price the V60 to be sub-270k, spec it nicely. I would buy it. If BMW can sell the 3er for what it is today, CKD, EEV discounts, I’m sure Volvo could do the same. And Volvo is not right up there with the big three. Almost. So that makes their pricing bracket as well, almost there.
