North-South Expressway widening project to be included in Johor BN’s manifesto – PM Najib Razak

The widening of the North-South Expressway (NSE) will be added to the campaign manifesto of Barisan Nasional’s Johor division, after prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak instructed state BN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin to do so.

The project, which has been given the thumbs up by Najib, will involve increasing the number of lanes on the expressway from four to six. This is to help ease the congestion and frequent gridlocks that occur between Ayer Hitam and Johor Bahru, especially on weekends.

Najib added that work on the project would only begin as soon as the election was over, which is expected to be held very soon. Is the widening of the NSE something that you’ve been looking forward to for a very long time?

Even the 30% car price reduction also not done despite 5 years have passed. How to believe this?

Anyway, any widening would mean toll prices will go higher and higher and higher.

Remember, when work is done, someone somewhere makes big money

Instead of widening, I want to suggest why not built one straight stretch parallel tu current PLUs highway? There are just too many interchanges and too many cars. If one is driving from KL to JB or Singapore he doesn’t need to go through all the interchange sections. That means ,after melaka, he will be diverted onto the direct highway to JB. Only for cars. No commercial vehicles. Min speed limit 100kmh, max 125kmh.
Yes, plus can built that. No problem.

  • Not so easy or cheap as that parts of the hiway is fenced with hills & slopes.

      • But going down south, u can see current hiway is by the hillsides. Anymore expansion will eat more into the hills and create more problems. Need a lot of study and complex engineering to ensure no problems. This not cheap.

I think you are confused with the Northern section. The south is just low rise hills with plantations on both side of the road. All countries (including Malaysia) build highways on mountain ranges (note: East-West Highway). So the challenge to build on the Southern section of the North-South Highway is the least among all the long distance highways in Malaysia.

higher car prices wont solve the problem because people still need to travel. all that will do is force potential myvi buyers to buy viva instead, civic buyers will buy city, etc.
