Volvo XC40 launched in Australia, priced from RM142k

Australia has welcomed the Volvo XC40, with the compact SUV being offered with D4 diesel and T5 petrol engines, along with Momentum and R-Design trims. There’s also limited-run Launch Edition versions available, which comes with additional kit on top of the variant it is based on. Prices start from AUD47,990 (RM142,216) up to AUD59,740 (RM177,036), according to CarAdvice.

Both turbocharged four-cylinder engines are paired with an AW TG-81SC eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard. In the case of the T5, the mill makes 252 hp and 350 Nm of torque, whereas the D4 churns out 190 hp and 400 Nm.

Standard equipment on the Momentum includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps with “Thor’s Hammer” DRLs, fabric upholstery, powered driver’s seat with lumbar support, a 12.3-inch digital display instrument cluster, eight-speaker audio system, 9-inch Sensus touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Support, as well as a wireless phone charger.

The R-Design piles on a styling pack, which consists of a gloss black grille, double integrated tailpipes, 20-inch diamond-cut black alloy wheels, two-tone paintjob, R-Design badging, R-Design Nubuck textile/Nappa leather upholstery with black headliner, sports chassis, R-Design steering wheel with paddle shifters and an R-Design gear lever.

Other add-ons with the R-Design include a powered seat for the front passenger, Active Bending Lights, keyless entry, an electric tailgate with gesture opening function, and an enhanced interior ambient lighting system.

In total, there will be four variants: T5 Momentum, T5 R-Design, D4 Momentum and D4 R-Design, but Launch Edition versions will be offered in limited numbers for each of them. For Momentum Launch Edition cars, a sunroof, LED headlamps with Active Bending Lights, adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist, Harman Kardon sound system and heated front seats are added on top of what is available.

The kit list also includes 19-inch five-spoke diamond-cut alloys, 360-degree camera, manual front-seat cushion extension, Park Assist Pilot, keyless entry, an electric tailgate, electric seat adjustment for the front passenger, and leather upholstery.

As for the R-Design Launch Edition, it too gets a sunroof, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist, Park Assist Pilot, 360-degree camera system and a Harman Kardon sound system. Some of these items are available as an option for the standard non-Launch Edition XC40s.

Lucky Australians. Can afford this car ……no problem at all.

Most will buy even without taking a loan also. Even Aussie garbage collector also can buy this car

In Malaysia, Volvo will price it at RM250k. Even the Tan Sri will think 10X before buying this car

You must take it in context. AUD47k is considered small money in the Australia. Infact, that is what a McDonalds waiter earns in less than a year working part time.

But come to Malaysia….sure RM250k…..only kaya kaya can afford

Break that down for us please, I’d like to see how a part time waiter at McD (obviously a fictitious position since it’s fully serve over there), could earn circa AUD3,900.00/ month.
I could double check that with my elder bro who lives in Melbourne.

A full time professional waiter in an upscale /fine dining restaurant earn around AUD 20-23/hour.
McD workers earn lower still, and one can google it-
      team member= 14.77/hour
      crew member/contractor= 15.69/hour
      kitchen crew=16.94/hour
      shift supervisor=20.43/hour

The standard working week in Australia is 38 hours per week (7.6 hours per day), usually worked Monday to Friday. Work beyond that amount is overtime.

In many workplaces, work is arranged over a four week, twenty work day cycle of 8 hours per day, with the accumulated 0.4 hours per day being taken on the twentieth day as an Accumulated or Rostered Day Off.

So what that means is that:-
A team member will earn circa AUD 2245 -2363/ month,
A crew member/ contractor would earn between AUD2385-2510/month,
A kitchen crew would earn between AUD2576-2710
      A shift supervisor between AUD3105- 3270
All full time mind you, not including tax deduction, if applicable. So my question, how does a McD waiter ( a fictitious position because they don’t have waiters there because they’re fully self served) in OZ land earn AUD3900/ month, doing it part time?

        Osaka Boy,

Very stupid of you . you never learn economics or perhaps failed .

Cheaper car like CX3 meant for mass market ( more sales volume)

Premium cars like Volvo , Lexus and Audi meant for niche market ( less sales volume)

Cx3 is a better buy and more luxury

    • Kelvin on May 03, 2018 at 6:42 pm

Cx3 sucks and is not a premium brand at all unlike luxury xc40. Furthermore , cx3 is so much smaller and sit shorter than xc40.

In terms of power, specs and safety features comparison , CX 3 is totally knock out.and placed at the bottom by xc40.

Xc40 is mightier than any CX 3 . Cx3 is also cheaper to buy than xc40 by half the price differences which placed cx3 as a non premium brand in comparison

    • CX 3 is different category in term of size, type of vehicle, engine and yes…. You call it “more” luxury compare to local assemble Japanese model …. maybe..

CX3 is of lower category and sit in the non premium sector.

The xc40 specs , power and safety features outshines cx3 anytime. XC40 lies in the premium sector

CX3 is only comparable with HRV and Subaru XV . Both XV and HRV are anytime more luxury and more premium than CX3 sitting in the non premium comparison sector.

Volvo would look to challenge and take up X1 market and price it at an amazing 220k for entry level and 248,888 for the high spec model. New launch prices will see the high spec model priced at 228,888. It challenges the user to choose overall safety in comparison to RV. However all contis have low RV, but in reality all those who buy conti don’t give a damn about RV anyways. Those who complain about RV are driving myvi’s and vios.
