While Audi may or may not be shelving plans for a next-generation R8, that doesn’t mean it has given up on the whole supercar lark just yet. Debuting at Pebble Beach, California at the end of August is the PB18 e-tron concept, with the first part of the name denoting the location and year of its world premiere.
As the second part of the name suggests, the PB18 e-tron will be electrically powered, likely deriving its technology from the Le Mans-winning R18 hybrid prototype and the years developing the short-lived R8 e-tron. The new show car was designed at Audi’s new Malibu Design Loft, and the teaser shows a low-slung body with L-shaped headlight graphics and side-view cameras similar to the upcoming e-tron SUV.
The PB18 e-tron will be unveiled at Laguna Seca on August 23, before being displayed at The Quail presentation the next day, at Laguna Seca again on August 25 and finally at the Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach on August 26.
