Full details and specifications of the new 2019 Toyota Camry have been released by UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT). The eighth-generation Camry enters the Malaysian market in a single 2.5V spec, priced at RM189,900 on-the-road excluding insurance. Order books are now open, but the price tag is classified as “estimated”.
More than just a sleek new reskin, the “Beautiful Monster” is fresh under the skin. It sits on the company’s Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform that’s said to improve stability, agility and safety all at once.
The new Camry is longer (+35 mm for 4,885 mm), wider (+15 mm for 1,840 mm) and sits lower than before (-25 mm for 1,445 mm). The 2,825 mm wheelbase is 50 mm longer, which means overhangs are now shorter. Those are all stance improving stats.
The suspension is made up of front MacPherson struts and rear double wishbones. A parallel axis EPS system steers 18-inch wheels with 235/45 tyres.
Under the hood is the familiar 2AR-FE 2.5 litre four-cylinder engine, carried over from the outgoing Camry along with a six-speed auto. The Dual VVT-i and ACIS-equipped unit makes 184 PS and 235 Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm. That’s 4 PS more than the outgoing rating.
The continuation of the 2AR-FE means that we’re not geting the latest 2.5 litre Dynamic Force engine that’s available in Thailand – that motor has 209 PS/250 Nm, and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Also not here is the Thai market’s hybrid variant, although we expect a 2.0L version to join the range.
We move on to features, and heading the list (literally) is the automatic bi-LED projector headlamps with LED turn signals. Also in LED are the daytime running lights, fog lamps and rear lights. All LED, basically. Other exterior kit include 18-inch rims, hydrophilic auto retractable wing mirrors (linked to memory), auto wipers and dual exhaust tips.
Inside, UMWT’s flagship sedan comes with “smooth leather” seats, eight-way powered front seats (power lumbar and memory for driver, shoulder switch and collapsible headrest on passenger side), power adjustable steering (linked to memory), an eight-inch capacitive touchscreen display with navigation, nine-speaker JBL audio system, and a seven-inch colour multi-info display between two Optitron dials. Ahead of the instrument panel is a 10-inch colour head-up display (HUD).
Also included is an electrochromic rear view mirror, keyless entry and push start, electronic parking brake (with auto brake hold), dual-zone auto air con with rear vents, sun shades (powered for rear screen, manual for rear doors), wireless smartphone charger and digital video recorder (dashcam).
On the safety front, the new Camry comes with the Toyota Safety Sense suite of systems, which include Pre-collision System, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beam.
This is in addition to seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain, driver’s knee), Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, hill start assist, front/rear parking sensors and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Six colours are available, and they are the hero Red Mica, Platinum White Pearl Mica, Silver Metallic, Graphite Metallic and Burning Black CS GF. UMWT’s security and solar film is included. Click to enlarge the price list below.

Old engine. UMW really valued Malaysian buyer as worthless.

macam Tun M sudah kata, kalau malas dan suka curi, macam mana nak jadikan Malaysia maju????
Harap Toyta Japan buka di Malaysia dan jual direct. Ini dah jadi macam hal AP
best komen ever. If you want to succeed and do well in life you must work hard. Not curi and be lazy
You seem to like making comments with another name and then complimenting yourself eh?
just any other internal combustion engine.
That’s why this 2.5V same price as Thailand 2.0V model.
Correcto.Thailand pipel pay alot more ..
RM190k is overpriced. This is because UMW is a lembap and malas company. Never work hard to give consumers good price.
Same like our overbloated MRT3 contract
rakyat Malaysia kena tipu dari bangsa sendiri. UMW sepatutnya bagi harga murah kerana harga dunia tak mahal
It is not cheap in thai and indon neither
Camry 2.0 and after they CKD it will be RM150.
OMG OMG, suddenly X70 at RM120k seems to be so expensive.
RM120k VS RM150k…….ha ha ha. For sure people buy Camry than China car
Hahaha…ppl sure buy X70 lah, who want Toyota Camry? You?
Hong Kong 2018 New Camry 2.5 NA non Dynamic Force Engine, 6 speed auto, imported from Japan : Price RM160K(converted) with kosong spec.
Taiwan 2018 New Camry 2.5 NA non Dynamic force Engine, 6 speed auto, imported from Japan : Price Rm 158K(converted), with kosong spec.
Thailand 2018 New Camry 2.5 NA new Dynamic Force Engine, 8 speed auto : Price RM 200K( converted), with moderate spec.
Malaysia 2018 New Camry 2.5 NA non Dynamic Force Engine, 6 speed auto, imported from Thailand : Price RM 189K, with very high spec.
So I can see the Malaysian spec Camry is not a bad deal.
This car is expensive but still sells so well. Proton is super cheap but sales are kosong. Rakyat know about the paid Toyota bashers who are now in their cave sembunyi
Toyota better open direct in Malaysia and sell us cheaper cars. Have GLC partner is useless because the GLC never fight for lower prices from us.
Infact the GLC shortchange the rakyat. Until 2 years ago all Toyotas in Malaysia had no VSC but all Toyotas in Japan had VSC the past 15 years
PNB is building so many new towers because they got lot of money from Toyota sales.
Hope Toyota Japan cancel their contract. CKD in Thailand and bring to Malaysia
But you forgotten
The previous TAKATA killer air bag and Toyota unintended acceleration worldwide incidents killing their love ones say about many problems Toyota had brought about the lost of their love ones.
Then why the hassle to develop dynamic force engine for Europe and North America? Just stick with 2ar-fe for all market
To the Toyota fanboi: Ur dinosar is inbound. Get ready the storage for its long stay.
The only storage is the many unsold Protons in the yard facing the hot sun. Berlambak tak jual wei
P1 got 10,000 bookings just for X70 alone. How many does this dinosar has? Pitiful Toyota dinosar. Lolz!
Correction john, It is not P1 who got bookings. It is Geely who got 10,000 bookings.
Thanks to Geely and thanks to Chin for the X70. Proton, just ike yourself just tumpang glamour for other people’s hard work
Correcto, just like why pipu buy P2 becoz its cheap and not becoz its gud somemore it just tumpang glamour from Toyota which tumpang glamour from Geely. How does it feel to tumpang sekenhen glamour compared to P1?
better than tumpang tanah orang…
Toyota also tumpang geely in hybrid tech
Spot on, john! Toyota are just a brand living off their name. Their cars have been getting worse and worse so to stem that negative perception, their sales team goes around to paint a negative impression on other brands just so they don’t look as bad in comparison.
Such a desperate and sorry way to market their cars. Why don’t they focus instead to give updated specs like this Dynamic engine?
Tenkiu bro! Enjoy ur Ford car.
This car will be a top seller. In recent JD Survey, Toyota was rated the least problematic whilst Proton is the most problematic car.
The sales of this Camry melambung. Nobody is buying the Perdana, only Government departments ordering it.
Poor John
This idiot always hates Proton. As well as John Minum Teh Kopi 8X is also hating BMW, Ford, Hyundai and Kia. Which I had already seen for few months back.
Proton cars got no RV. By today full price, next week sell also can only get 50%
2016 Camry 2.5 Hybrid hanya RM 112,800 shj
Most people hate Proton becaus eProton cheated the rakyat of Malaysia for 20 yrs with low quality cars.
ANd what about jepunis cars with killer airbags? WHy you dun bash that?
I rather buy an Accord or a Camry than Boyue X70.
2018-Accord or Camry RM150k.
2020 -2 years later I sell can get RM120k.
2018- Boyue X70 RM110k
2020 -2 years later I sell I can get RM50k.
So which car do you rugi more??
Accord and Camry no turbo, boring
Malaysia’s best selling D segment car is now getting better. Wow, this is going to be a top seller. But I hope UMW don’t cheat us with pricing. This 2.5 Camr in USA only USD22k. Here RM190k. No logic.
Forget this 2.5. Let us talk about Camry Hyrbid.
Camry CBU Hybrid in Australia only cost AUD27k (RM90k)
Our CKD Made in Malaysia Camry should be cheaper because it is using CKD parts. But it is sold for RM175k.
To make matters worse, they say the Hybrid is tax free. If tax free, it should be RM90k not RM175k.
Pls UMW, don’t cheat us like before. These are all bad habits brought about by the previous corrupted Government as UMW is fully a GLC.
Pity the New Government is allowing this nonsense to continue
Really overpriced. It’s may due to CHR which price around RM150k. Soon there will be yaris Ativ (replace Vios), price may over RM10k than Honda city.. and later will come corolla hatchback which price more than civic.
i heard Rav4 also will come in next year..
Maybe you can go US and bring it back. Every citizen gets one free AP per lifetime. Better still if you can pool your purchase with those interested. That way you can defray your shipping costs.
can u explain why Camry in Thai has similar pricing when Thai is ASEAN HQ n main production hub? why not cheaper?
I fwant to follow Camry price in Thailand, let us also abolish special privileges in Malaysia. Follow Thailand style of all citizens are same
So why he comparing with Australia then?
We must follow Thailand way also where all rakyat are the SAME.
Thailand 2.5G camry is Rm200k ++. Also the spec of that 2.5G non hybrid is quite low in spec wise.
PNB own 50% while EPF own 20% of UMW… the only biggest private shareholder only own 3% of UMW. Basically UMW just a GLC which doesn’t care about you rather than milking more and more profit to pay dividend to shareholder and their super big staff where 10 people do 1 person work in office
Where is the janji to reduce car prices by 30%??? Did Malaysians get cheated?
5 years I waited for prices to go down but prices went up
Toyota Japan should open direct in Malaysia. Give abang abang to make Camry….they give us this lousy price.
Abang abang curi from us
bcoz UMW think Malaysians are so stuuuupid….
as u mentioned, UMW Toyota, Daihatsu and Perodua always cheat.
Still better engine & trans than 5 speed Accordingly
Ancient and Dinosaur engine brings NO appreciation and excitement. SO DULL AND BORING to consider
Other European manufacturers had their technologies ahead of Toyota by leaps and bounds.
That why Toyota cannot sell in Europe
Sell well only in USA because USA car like GM, FORD and Chrysler are Junkies
We, Malaysian are third world people in Malaysia and deemed as worthless – buy Toyota
The best of Malaysian are living elsewhere and are not third world status.– do not buy Toyota
Consider a 12 month old Sonata @around RM35k… Great value for money
All new camry? But no new dynamic force engine.
Cant deny it so highly specced. bargain Lexus ES,
UMWT mah. They only know how to disappoint. No surprises with a joke of price.
Toyota bashers today all hiding. well, there is only one really with his 20 dupes.
Today, don’t know where he is hiding his face
Better wait for VW Arteon.
Our caplang local car company Proton has never given us an equivalent to the Camry.
Even the Perdana is a rebadged Accord.
What does the engineers and desginers do all day long in the Proton office? 30 years never bothered to give us good D segment sedan
Investing in a segment that mass pipu cannot afford is wasting time and money
Mitsubishi was giving us old outdated Engines in all Protons the past 25 yrs. We never made noise.
Proton also was giving us gas guzzlers Campro inefficient engine also, yet we never made noise.
easy, proton never had newer engine to even fit. Toyota had new engine yet UMW choose old engine to fit. OF COURSE MAKE NOISE!
Eyesore monster and even had the cheek to be more expensive than outgoing gen.
So malu. Proton already lingkup but Toyota sales are doing so well. Already today alone got few hundred orders for this car.
Toyota sales ady lost to honda
Toyota fanboy detected! Review same like the car.. Outdated!
Toyota or whoever done this to put the old engine into this new body kinda “rip-off”. Sigh… sad.
Zzzzzzzzz….. it’s didn’t turns me on!! Shit!!
stick to your Preve. LOL
As above
Look like UMW digging their own grave again, selling 190k for such spec.
Well done UMW Toyota, finally a proper flagship sedan from UMW Toyota with proper flagship features all packaged on the sporty TNGA platform. So what, if the engine is carryover. Japanese rivals such as the face-lifted Mazda 6 also didn’t receive the turbo engine & Accord turbo is also year away.
Mazda 6 will be receiving PY-VPTS block and it has been launched. just google it.
But mazda6’s skyactiv engine outperforms both the camry’s carryover and the new dynamic force engine(in terms of fc for this one) .
So how?
Becoz when Toyota moves, they move backwards.
Don’t worry once CKD in Malaysia and once hybrid comes in, prices will be the usual RM140 to RM150k. At least Toyota never beg bailout billions every year
At 150k? Can foresee nobody will want this overpriced sh!t due to hybrid having bad RV, and as you said, RV > all rite?
Who cares about bailout, pipu talk about car, not bailout. Pipu buy overpiced outdated cars and pay very expensive prices
Yes it’s a beautiful monster… but over price
Grandpa dugung with giant braces
Seriously overpriced
nothing to comment. just want to laugh.
UMWT has really lost it’s strength now. So sad. They really need to look back at what they had offered to the market 15 years back, perhaps some help of grey imports to help boost image just like last time. In the last decade there were several models sold as grey and gave image boost to local Toyotas like Mr-s, Celica, caldina, harrier, eetima, wish, alphard.
The downturn of Toyota I remember started when they current vios roof sound insulation problem. Hope they already sacked the person in charge in that area.
RM 190,000!! And using the same old engine.. UMW, are u joking??
No Dynamic Force, no sale!! All uncle vely mad..At Rm190k WITHOUT insurance, use old engine and No sporty version like those in the US wat a rip off…if incle can afford Rm190k car, they cann oso afford CLass and BMW alrdy
Size-wise, this Camry compares with the BMW 5-series and Mercedes E-class. At RM140k less than those, this Camry caters for a completely different segment of car buyers.
WOW, single spec! Is like telling the consumers take it or leave it! UMW is not hungry for sales. I like… can’t wait to see Toyota close shop in Malaysia shore.
190k fuh. So right.
With this kind of price… sure keep the stock in show room forever…
Can you hear that? Unkers opening their cheque book. As long as it’s a T-O-Y-O-T-A
If im oso a dinosar fan, i will oso call this beautiful monster. Lolz!
At least this car can sell, your Proton got no sales until Geely has to save it. Monster also still laku. Oh wai
But no quality
So meaning when Persona sales outsold Vios+Altis+Camry, that means Toyota really tak laku until need to partner with Geely? Oh wai…
190k? Bye bye UMW
cbu or ckd
For Camry as usual, it will be CKD
And one more thing, who is going to buy new overpriced Camry. Uhh. Definitely, only uncles and aunties will buy this Camry
It is CBU from Thailand
1 word = lame! I’ll just going to wait for the new Accord
Nice. cheaper then class leader Mazda6 2.5
Beautiful Monster? I thought monsters are ugly. Funny how Toyota named it “Beautiful Monster” as the new Camry is so ugly. The new Accord will be named the “Beautiful beauty”.
What the hell! Almost 200k for a TOYOTA dinosaur engine with only 235Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm!!! DOA
no reverse camera? Anyway, insance pricing!
Possible they include revese camera, but how about 360 camera? If absent, screw u UMW.
Bumper depan macam kuih lapis
and you thought the Mazda 6 2.5L sedan is expensive…looks like Camry is going to be the most expensive D-segment sedan around
What so special about this engine? It doesn’t need fuel ar?
Bummer, same old engine
190k?? Bye bye UMW Toyota
wow, no 2.0 already?
Coming soon..
In Uae, this car is a taxi
In Europe, 5 Series, E Class, A6 all taxi. What’s your point, dumb ass?
Well Europe manufactured there.. And Toyota is not a local car.. So it’s still lame… Dickhead!
Even in developing countries like Thai and Indo a lot of Toyota are taxis, malu betul
In Uae, they used the supercars as police cars.
Mazda6 je lar
ToyotaUSA advert line: “If u wanna get a gud Toyota, go buy a Mazda”. Lolz!
Why Msia all new camry still get old version engine under the hood compare to Thai camry? Antara dua darjat?
when launching new Camry, still giving outdated engine and 6 speed automatic as previous Camry. But got Toyota Safety Sense and other safety features too. However, launching new Camry is actually overpriced
190k??.. Good luck.
Why so expensive…. NEXT
Pls fired all Umw marketing team.
U definitely dunno what market want.
1. Price is crazily high. Expect they will give 7-8k maybe 10k discount afterward when they are not selling well.
2. Still old stuff engine when Thailand offer with dynamic force engine. After not selling well then will introduce enhance version with new engine. This is punish your early bought customer. This will be same trick u did for previous gen camry not including vsc. Then re-intro camry precise with vsc after not selling well.
3. No 2.0 version which mean u totally give up entry level to accord which u already in far behind.
I would say toyota co Japan, pls revoke their sole distribution.
Pls learn it from Honda.
Umw u still not awake.
Price is slowly creeping up and soon one will have to fork out 200k for a top level D segment sedan.
Kahkahkah
Dear Proton Edar.
Please take note. THIS is how to do a pre launch. Tease a bit, not too long.
Then BAM, out comes the specs & estimated pricing.
Catch everybody by SURPRISE !!!!!
Short or long also no use this car is museum level
Surprised indeed. We all puked at that prices. Straight away not interested. If want to do a pre launch, this is how to do it… if the intention is to lose all potential customers.
No point to buy this over the Honda Accord 2.4 since they didn’t update the engine or transmission.
Still better than the accord 2.4. The 5-speed and 2.4 engine is really pre-dinosaur
Just wait for the 10th gen accord 1.5T and replacement for accord 3.5 (accord 2.0T).
LOL, UMWT was like, give u old crap no matter what u will buy it
Wouldn’t it be too over price?? :-(
Sure can sale as pisang goreng. Easily can tapau X70 sales. Good RV too..
Wrong Bro. It should be “sure can sale as pisang goreng like X70 Sales. Easily can tapau Honda Sales. Good RV too” then it is correct
Camry and X70 are different segment and catagory. X70 has pano sunroof, nappa leather seats. But new camry in malaysia?
So u predict December 2018 vehicle sales volume for Toyota will be more 10k units per month?
If Thailand can get the new engine, why can’t we?
Wait for the hybrid
Still better than dinosaur accord engine lol
U mean Proton Perdana right? Hahaha!
At least it doesn’t cost 190k and much more beautiful than this kuih lapis car
One dinosaur does not compare well with another dinosaur.
Old engine or new engine, still an uncle”s car
“BEAUTIFUL MONSTER”
Bring in the MONSTER Dynamic Force Engine…
Not the old 2.5 Engine
Something is wrong with UMW Toyota
(Like) Kia Optima GT with 2.0 TGDI Engine
(Dislike) Toyota Camry with No Dynamic Force Engine
Lol… Looks like I am one of the many who chose the old-engined Camry over the problematic Kia. :)
If optima gt in malaysia comes with active safety system, they will prefer optima gt.
Both are obsolete and lousy choice
One is from Korea and the other from Japan
Next
Please get something better to VOTE
( do not waste valuable time please)
With a outgoing engine and no 8 speeds for almost RM200k ? Where is the Dynamics Force engine like the Thailand version.
Hahaha. Old engine.
Wait for the Accord 1.5T and 2.0T to walk all over it.
It would be Vios Vs City, Altis Vs Civic…all over again.
UMW looking down on Malaysian uncle??give old engine Camry *
Kuih Lapis Edition
All uncle in Malaysia very mad, UMW looking down on them think only Thai uncle can afford buy Dynamic Force engine? Even Rm210k oso Malaysian uncle can pay ..maybe time to Malaysian uncle to show who more Kuasa
OMG, the price so insane. Better take BMW 3 Series
3 series is a small car neither here and there. C segment size
3 series is a PIMP or AH LONG image/status car
This is a D segment car compare to D segment size
As usual we get carry over parts and transmission
Ha………..
Why M’sian being treated as less intelligent or fools with too much money to spend compared with the Thais who got the latest engines plus 8 speed gear box ?
Because we certainly are? Look at the foolish decision that we made to bring Atuk back.
At this price tag, IMO, the better choice is VW PASSAT 2.0 TSI, more horse power, much solid build, and a seamless DSG 6 SPEED.
It is existing when I heard Toyota announced that they decided to develop NA engine, with their current TNGA platform years ago. Very appreciate and a lot of anticipation on the upcoming TNGA models especially the Camry. And even vow to make a booking once the new Camry is open for register in Malaysia.
And now, after 1 year of long waiting… 2.5L outdated engine is the only option for Malaysian. Uncle face only, no sporty face.
All of these disappointments UMW Toyota has made, make me wish that “Honda please quickly launch the Accord, and sapu the market, left the bones to UMW Toyota.”
Maybe I should, have more patient, the sporty face and the TNGA drive-trains will arrive at our shore later. Wait somemore… How long we have to wait? Another year? Years?
Overprice yet over confidence of UMW toyota..people with brain will not go for new Camry..better choice is waiting for their money..full stop..
Finally Toyota Safety Sense Makes it to the Camry! A monster indeed
But not sporty looking like Camry XSE in US it called monster? No dynamic force engine? screw u UMW.
Never thought a Camry can look so good. No more uncle car now
Am i the only one who love the tagline here?
Is it getting the same TSS system as the Harrier?
Really aggresive stance this car. Look so garang!
Does it seem like the gap between Toyota And Lexus/beemer is closing in? Specs are quite convincing i must say
Fuiyoh, UMW thought giving more features on gadgets will attract consumers to buy in premium price meanwhile retain the old engine and old gearbox. God bless you UMW Toyota and congratulation to Honda worry free from its main rival.
Any reason why it is CBU resulting in the higher price?
Love those headlamps!!
The big kuih lapis bumper spoils it all
Never imagined Toyota would be this daring with The tagline
funny when one of the comments say you buy car for the engine. Should try a lorry maybe for power
Jepunis engine is not as good as olden days, even campro more reliable
Toyota has the same thought as you
haha, how good if everyone same thought like you. Engine development is one of the most expensive meanwhile to differentiate themselves from others.
Remember Toyota has Dynamic Force Engine but UMW bring in OLD ENGINE. One day Toyota bring in this DFE you better buy one and fit in the lorry engine then.
UMW thinks Malaysian customers are illiterate on cars and dump the interior models here… we are not stupid and well done Paultan.org for highlighting this disturbing fact
Pay 190k with old engine! Overpriced!!! Not worthy it at all
Toyota always produce ANCIENT ENGINES by copying others.
Buyers who use Toyota cars are always ancient and old fashion in thinking because they are not innovators but followers and copy cats. These type of people show no leadership quality at all but view things blindly.
Just like Toyota always brag how good they are after copying other competitors innovative technologies in modifying in their cars( Then Toyota saying better late than NEVER after 100% COPYING and MODIFYING other manufacturers innovations then CLAIMING they are the BEST– STUPID SELF PRAISE)
It is just like sitting for an exam, the student getting the best mark did not deserve it at all as the student actually was found copying others and with a note book underneath.
Anyway, this Camry one hell of an ugly design.
Nice car!
Already booked! Yay!
Apa ke bangangnya UMW Toyota tak bawak masuk Dynamic Force Engine?
Dont worry new engine sure will come here after five years thailand scrap their old engine
Our local Toyota Malaysia always left way behind from Asian Countries but our Good Toyota Malaysia very good at old model to new facelift end of the day is to buy or not to buy
Can’t introduce new engine here as car prices here highest in the world.
bolehlanders can’t afford as we are a third world country.
Thailand is way way ahead of us.
wow…from 120k car then to 150k car then now 200k car…bravo!
Specs are great except the old junk engine which is useless. Same case as upcoming HRV RS.
All new skin but old heart and soul junk parts underneath.
Great positioning in no man’s land at 190k…bandits… Happy selling
Honda accord is a better buy.
Zaman BN new camry cost rm145k
Zaman PH new camry cost rm190k
Malaysia Baru they said
rm145k is 2.0L camry. rm190k is 2.5L camry. btw zaman BN 2.5 camry cost rm180k.
RM180k still cheaper than RM190k what.
Zaman BN new LRT3 RM40b.
Zaman PH new LRT3 RM10b
Overpriced lah, UMW..
What do you mean? Even the base E200 has akl these safety features given by this let a lone an E300 or 530i
LOL please. E200 dont even have blindspot asisst and lane keeping assist let alone the E300. 530i has it but not Adaptive cruise control. Oh yeah and did i mention there is no keyless for E200 but priced at 330k?
Even the Australia Camry’s 4-Cylinder model is using 2AR-FE engine which is same as Malaysia Camry model (ASV70R-JETVKE H2), I think our CBU built is sourced directly from Australia instead of Thailand.
https://www.toyota.com.au/-/media/toyota/main-site/vehicle-hubs/camry/files/camry_spec_data_jan2018.pdf
Toyota had already pulled out their assembly operation in Australia
UMW continue to cheat Malaysian with this new Camry. The price is totally does not make sense. Worse still, new Camry is using OLD engine, instead of Hybrid or the newer 2.5 engine. Really lost my mood on this new Camry
Toyota has gone crazy with their overpricing. CHR was grossly overpriced and now this.
How it’s start of the end for them.
Many said disappointed this or that as if they gonna buy it. I won’t be surprised many are just driving City at best.
Agreed, I currently own a hybrid Camry and yet I’ll wait for their facelift version. As history has shown, they always leave out the ‘original’ equipment on the first launch, and reintroduce it with their facelift as an USP. Hopefully the facelift has an hybrid option, the torque the current one has is exhilarating, at least for a family sedan…
Surreal to see someone describe Camry’s torque as exhilarating
Toyota Malaysia, please stop treat people here like stupid. For RM190K price, we dont deserve for new Dynamic Force NA/Hybrid engine?
Open your eyes big big and see your CHR sales! This supposed to sell like hot cake with right specification and price. But you throw in old 1.8 engine, remove Safety Sence to sell at RM150K? What a joke man!
You should sack your Product Management Team right now! They don’t understand market demand and trend.
Pls la UMW toyota … Don’t alwiz launch your product with old engine tech to Malaysian..why the Thailand can get dynamic force engine but we cant? Why???? R u look down to malaysia consumer?
As I read through the comments, somehow I have a feeling most people doesn’t know why Camry and similarly slow depreciating cars is popular. Simply put it, their trade in value allows us to Cash purchase a new car every 5 years (warranty period). It’s not exactly straight forward, since we do need to save for 10 years first. And that also assume you have the financial security and intention as well.
For example a well maintained 5 years old Camry can be traded back to UMW for minimum RM70k, Which means if add insurance and etc into the picture, there’s RM130k more needed. Lets name this as Camry 1 (2008), Camry 2 (2013) and Camry 3 (2018).
During Camry 1, we need to buy it at full value or unless you got lucky and won the car or inherited it from your long lost dead uncle, I digress. Say the full price is at RM190k, while servicing our loan (RM3420/month or RM225k borrowed), We save up RM2200/month into a flexible FD account and name this My New Car Every 5 Years account (MNCE5Y account). (This is assuming you have the money to do so, or you inherited that money as well. If you don’t, I wish you the best in earning that money too… or strike a lottery would work nicely too…)
5 Years down the road, MNCE5Y account now have RM154k (including interest of 3%), this means Camry 1 trade in for RM70k then top up RM130k (from MNCE5Y account) to get Camry 2 + RM34k interest bonus + Savings of RM26k as well. Where does this RM26k come from? The new car loan for the RM130k if you hadn’t saved is RM2600/month, add that up and it’s magically RM156k. RM156k-RM130k=RM26k. Now so far you had saved RM26k and earned RM34k. At this point we continue to save RM2200/month into FD account.
5 years later, Camry 2 sell, change Camry 3, get extra RM34k interest bonus and save RM26k again. Repeat and repeat until we no longer can afford to do so or we KO. Untung wei.. Untung!
OK… Well that isn’t really the real picture here… car prices increases over time, but at the very least this is the format my family has been using since last generation. The good thing about creating the MNCE5Y account and changing it every 10~15 years is simply because… Drum Rolls!!!
It’s a bit more economical to own a car for 10~15 years and at the same time create this FD account as well. Example of this Camry again RM190k, while a 15yo Camry trade in is about RM20k, leaving you with a bill of RM170k, the minimum FD that has ever been around is RM5k for a year. Which isn’t that bad if you are planning to save for a car 15 years from now but if you save in that RM170 or more, you’ll be getting RM260k at the end of the 15 years. Essentially you earned RM90k instead plus a new car and saved money on the RM35k loan interest. Or say you compound your FD by putting in RM5k 3 times a year, or RM1,250 month. Your maturity amount will still be around RM240k, which means you still earned RM70k plus a new car and saved on loan interest. But hey, that’s not the real savings, there’s the part where everyone seems to ignore most of the time, maintenance… Proper full maintenance…
What if we add in servicing and replacing broken parts? Well if we take the Camry into account again, in the first 5 years, there’s the warranty, so it boils down to regular UMW servicing every 6 months (fully synthetic) and changing tires at RM10k for the first 5 years. Now the tricky part is how you treat your car the next 10 years, if you are the kind that goes over speed bumps above 20km/h then your shocks will need to be replaced around year 10 for RM3k average. Other parts that breaks down due to wear and tear, re-tinting the windows, air conditioning, repainting (yes I do that every 10 years, shiny, blink blink), reupholstering, the figure then hovers around RM30k for that remaining 10 years to keep my car fresh and nice. So the initial RM70k-90k goes down to RM40k-60k respectively, still saving money though…
PS. some banks have RM1000 min deposits, and this works for other cars as well.
What is your summary?
Summary is if have to save RM2600 every month better buy a Merc!
It is stupid to buy this junk with that kind of money
New Camry will end up like Elanta and Celaka, after raiaing prices to Rm100k+-, making all ah beng mad coz their dad refused subsidied nonRV priced sohai, after previuous Forte sold so well they chg name and naik harga
Saw the car earlier last week probabl testing on the road. One heck of a looker i must say!
With all the changes and people are harping on the engine? I own the previous 2 gen 2.4 Camry and to be honest the engine is still decently powered and consumption is great. Way better than those ‘newer’ engines out there
Great? You get 14km/l in city kah?
Kahkahkah
One thing that ppl forget about Toyota is they build their cars well! Ive owned a few and some other conti brands. Will never touch the contis ever again. Be it reliability or aftersales service. Really sick of bringing the cars in and out of workshop
thks to the stupid local automotive vision and policy causing us to only receive dated tech.. the proton models with dated and always steps behind product life cycle can always linger on for so long.. but malaysian still buy years after years.. kinda like telling people Malaysian not picky and tolerant with anything techy. oh my god, umw is a glc company. all the more reason i wont buy any car to support them.. these glc known for expert in charging bill lousy in services. master of corrupt core.
I think in this case, it’s Toyota itself. Not umw
UMW..U can go fly kite!
Same price with Toyota Fortuner.
but is a 2.5.
2.0 should be around RM 150K?
Same old issues with the camry. Old engine, overpriced, for uncles who want to look flash. Ugly monster la. Not beautiful at all.
From past experience, better wait for the facelift. That’s when UMW put in the goodies. First version is to test market.
No dynamic force engine, no 8 speed auto, no quad exhaust pipe, no driving mode selector, no sportier bodykit and rims like camry xse in us instead we got uncle looking camry here, no panoramic sunroof, seems no paddle shifters (hope that photos are illusion only). Screw u UMW.
VW passat 2.0 wet dual clutch is selling at RM173k (discounted price) and this so call new camry selling at RM190k. Except the interior space Camry is bigger than Passat and add on some gadgets, I dont know why people will go for it.
Pls note Passat wet clutch does not has the issue like dry clutch. Although the part and service might be more expensive but it is now nearly RM17k cheaper. Do not tell me that Camry 2.5 is fuel saving as it is rated as 7.8L/100km but passat is 6.2L/100km. Even if it is fake and add on 20% fuel it is still about 7.4L/100km. I would say it is almost similar fuel consumption but power wise Camry is far behind and it even slower than passat 1.8.
Of course people are not solely looking for power but if there were option for higher power then why go for lower. I am looking for D segment car lately and I am waiting this Camry and new accord launch before I make final decision. Obviously camry is out, now gonna wait for accord to make decision.
Jepunis cars are fuel guzzler, like lembu minum air. 7.8l/100km FC is a big joke in 2018. The only way they can do is using paper thin chassis like on Bestseller Myvi
Beautiful Monster with Ulgy Price.
Camry’s closest rival is the accord 2.4, which now comes with honda sensing
Dat car is 166k otr , cn checkout at carbase…
And it has a NEW earth dreams engine…. ( but old 5 speeder )
Camry is 190k without insurance….
197k with……
Dats almost 30k difference…..
Better wait BoRui MHEV, full tank can go almost 1200km.
It is the aged 2012 Lexus ES250. Those 2015 facelift model, with big chrome face looks better. Wonder of any Malaysian will buy this, then convert to 2015 ES250?
UMW really take Malaysian as Ah Pek, only want those old, problem solved items. They never learn from previous Camry lesson! Since 2013, Camry no longer the best D segment car! Accord taking over!
Anyone realize cues of people/company manipulating the comment section and its LIKE/DISLIKE?
Toyota salesman worry their Camry is DoA with this bad publicity.
CAMRY is a LOWER CATEGORY CAR for managers compare to the likes of E class, S90 and 5 series for company directors.
It is in the same level as Proton Perdana
Camry and Perdana: D segment car.
E class, S90 and 5 series: E segment car
Looking at the new UGLY design and Ancient engine , I forsee the NEW CAMRY will not go down well in Malaysia for acceptance.
Sales of New Camry will SURELY DROP in months to come unless TOYOTA gives heavy discounting, extended warranties and pre reg to drive sales.
Over 200++ comments. Paultan should really post more Japanese cars for Malaysians.
Clear old stock here. Big joke pay 190k to get old engine.
At that price, how is this a better deal than a Passat Highline?
Hong Kong 2018 New Camry 2.5 NA non Dynamic Force Engine, 6 speed auto, imported from Japan : Price RM160K(converted) with kosong spec.
Taiwan 2018 New Camry 2.5 NA non Dynamic force Engine, 6 speed auto, imported from Japan : Price Rm 158K(converted), with kosong spec.
Thailand 2018 New Camry 2.5 NA new Dynamic Force Engine, 8 speed auto : Price RM 200K( converted), with moderate spec.
Malaysia 2018 New Camry 2.5 NA non Dynamic Force Engine, 6 speed auto, imported from Thailand : Price RM 189K, with very high spec.
Toyota too confident. Just don’t buy the Camry.
How about USA?
Toyota Malaysia finally bring the good spec and advanced feature to Malaysia. Previous history they always remove the safety and features in Malaysia market. I was surprise
– 7” Colour Multi-information not the 4″
– 8” DVD Touchscreen JBL not like other current models CHR, even Harrier also old design 7″. There is reason people prefer recon Harrier
– Head-up Display
– Memory Function
But price a bit high unless new engine or the camry sport. I will wait for CKD model or Hybrid.
Toyota sell Malaysian NEW “CAMRY”with OLD engine with the NEW PRICE.Walau Yeh
Why Malaysia Camry use old engine? stock clearance?
190k? No matter how, I will not buy Camry with rm190k. Toyota, you are no more reliable like cars old days. You can sell because you are cheap. Do you want to repeat silly mistake that proton did to perdana last time? Perdana launched at rm80k, selling like hot cake. Then, it was sold more than rm100k before it was abandoned by Malaysian.
At 190k, old engine, and not even rear camera and 360 view? UMW is getting too greedy and backward, perhaps because of UMNO/BN links. Look at the list of BOD and it is self-explanatory. Time for a major revamp at the top, in line with New Malaysia. Toyota Japan should take note. It is not a surprise many loyal Toyota fans are considering moving to other car makers.
I’ll rather wait for the 2019 Accord which has more features and most likely cost less (CKD)…..
Brothers, if UMW use the high spec version then we have to pay the BMW 3 series price tag based on our taxation system. If you wait until 3 National Car come out, the price will be “upgraded” to GLC 200 price tag.
If your income is RM30 k or more per month then you can buy the new Camry. Lesser than that not advisable to buy. For your information, we only “entitle” to buy Axia based on our income calculation. Remember the Axia manual kosong version not automatic version.
Don’t angry first, later if the Ringgit drop to RM5 to USD1, then the Camry price will up to GLC250 price tag. Now the only thing left is —— “Harapan”.
Vios has paddle shift and 360 panoramic view. Camry, which is the flagship model, does not have both these features. UMW must be joking!
Malaysia’s all new camry.. smartphone boleh buat mirrorring dgn touchscreen tak?
I have sat in the new Toyota Camry 2.5V recently. I would say the car is class and I can give thumbs up. They leg room and the interior deco are both impressively. If you want a new car, 2.5 hp, spacious, modern sedan, Toyota Camry may tick all the boxes. I am planning to trade in my MB E200K (year 2005) for this car. For RM189,000, what can you get from Mercedes? Maybe a MB E200 (year 2015) or MB E250/E200 (year 2015)? No more warranty and its time to pay for the parts for wear and tear. Performance wise, I am not sure yet as I have not test drive this car. I plan to do it in the next 2 weeks.
