2019 Toyota Camry 2.5V Malaysian specs out, RM190k

2019 Toyota Camry 2.5V Malaysian specs out, RM190k

Full details and specifications of the new 2019 Toyota Camry have been released by UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT). The eighth-generation Camry enters the Malaysian market in a single 2.5V spec, priced at RM189,900 on-the-road excluding insurance. Order books are now open, but the price tag is classified as “estimated”.

More than just a sleek new reskin, the “Beautiful Monster” is fresh under the skin. It sits on the company’s Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform that’s said to improve stability, agility and safety all at once.

The new Camry is longer (+35 mm for 4,885 mm), wider (+15 mm for 1,840 mm) and sits lower than before (-25 mm for 1,445 mm). The 2,825 mm wheelbase is 50 mm longer, which means overhangs are now shorter. Those are all stance improving stats.

2019 Toyota Camry 2.5V Malaysian specs out, RM190k

The suspension is made up of front MacPherson struts and rear double wishbones. A parallel axis EPS system steers 18-inch wheels with 235/45 tyres.

Under the hood is the familiar 2AR-FE 2.5 litre four-cylinder engine, carried over from the outgoing Camry along with a six-speed auto. The Dual VVT-i and ACIS-equipped unit makes 184 PS and 235 Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm. That’s 4 PS more than the outgoing rating.

The continuation of the 2AR-FE means that we’re not geting the latest 2.5 litre Dynamic Force engine that’s available in Thailand – that motor has 209 PS/250 Nm, and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Also not here is the Thai market’s hybrid variant, although we expect a 2.0L version to join the range.

We move on to features, and heading the list (literally) is the automatic bi-LED projector headlamps with LED turn signals. Also in LED are the daytime running lights, fog lamps and rear lights. All LED, basically. Other exterior kit include 18-inch rims, hydrophilic auto retractable wing mirrors (linked to memory), auto wipers and dual exhaust tips.

Inside, UMWT’s flagship sedan comes with “smooth leather” seats, eight-way powered front seats (power lumbar and memory for driver, shoulder switch and collapsible headrest on passenger side), power adjustable steering (linked to memory), an eight-inch capacitive touchscreen display with navigation, nine-speaker JBL audio system, and a seven-inch colour multi-info display between two Optitron dials. Ahead of the instrument panel is a 10-inch colour head-up display (HUD).

Also included is an electrochromic rear view mirror, keyless entry and push start, electronic parking brake (with auto brake hold), dual-zone auto air con with rear vents, sun shades (powered for rear screen, manual for rear doors), wireless smartphone charger and digital video recorder (dashcam).

On the safety front, the new Camry comes with the Toyota Safety Sense suite of systems, which include Pre-collision System, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beam.

This is in addition to seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain, driver’s knee), Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, hill start assist, front/rear parking sensors and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Six colours are available, and they are the hero Red Mica, Platinum White Pearl Mica, Silver Metallic, Graphite Metallic and Burning Black CS GF. UMWT’s security and solar film is included. Click to enlarge the price list below.

Spot on, john! Toyota are just a brand living off their name. Their cars have been getting worse and worse so to stem that negative perception, their sales team goes around to paint a negative impression on other brands just so they don’t look as bad in comparison.

Such a desperate and sorry way to market their cars. Why don’t they focus instead to give updated specs like this Dynamic engine?

Malaysia’s best selling D segment car is now getting better. Wow, this is going to be a top seller. But I hope UMW don’t cheat us with pricing. This 2.5 Camr in USA only USD22k. Here RM190k. No logic.

Forget this 2.5. Let us talk about Camry Hyrbid.

Camry CBU Hybrid in Australia only cost AUD27k (RM90k)

Our CKD Made in Malaysia Camry should be cheaper because it is using CKD parts. But it is sold for RM175k.

To make matters worse, they say the Hybrid is tax free. If tax free, it should be RM90k not RM175k.

Pls UMW, don’t cheat us like before. These are all bad habits brought about by the previous corrupted Government as UMW is fully a GLC.

UMWT has really lost it’s strength now. So sad. They really need to look back at what they had offered to the market 15 years back, perhaps some help of grey imports to help boost image just like last time. In the last decade there were several models sold as grey and gave image boost to local Toyotas like Mr-s, Celica, caldina, harrier, eetima, wish, alphard.

The downturn of Toyota I remember started when they current vios roof sound insulation problem. Hope they already sacked the person in charge in that area.

    2. Still old stuff engine when Thailand offer with dynamic force engine. After not selling well then will introduce enhance version with new engine. This is punish your early bought customer. This will be same trick u did for previous gen camry not including vsc. Then re-intro camry precise with vsc after not selling well.

It is existing when I heard Toyota announced that they decided to develop NA engine, with their current TNGA platform years ago. Very appreciate and a lot of anticipation on the upcoming TNGA models especially the Camry. And even vow to make a booking once the new Camry is open for register in Malaysia.
And now, after 1 year of long waiting… 2.5L outdated engine is the only option for Malaysian. Uncle face only, no sporty face.
All of these disappointments UMW Toyota has made, make me wish that “Honda please quickly launch the Accord, and sapu the market, left the bones to UMW Toyota.”
Maybe I should, have more patient, the sporty face and the TNGA drive-trains will arrive at our shore later. Wait somemore… How long we have to wait? Another year? Years?

Toyota always produce ANCIENT ENGINES by copying others.

Buyers who use Toyota cars are always ancient and old fashion in thinking because they are not innovators but followers and copy cats. These type of people show no leadership quality at all but view things blindly.

Just like Toyota always brag how good they are after copying other competitors innovative technologies in modifying in their cars( Then Toyota saying better late than NEVER after 100% COPYING and MODIFYING other manufacturers innovations then CLAIMING they are the BEST– STUPID SELF PRAISE)

It is just like sitting for an exam, the student getting the best mark did not deserve it at all as the student actually was found copying others and with a note book underneath.

Anyway, this Camry one hell of an ugly design.

Agreed, I currently own a hybrid Camry and yet I’ll wait for their facelift version. As history has shown, they always leave out the ‘original’ equipment on the first launch, and reintroduce it with their facelift as an USP. Hopefully the facelift has an hybrid option, the torque the current one has is exhilarating, at least for a family sedan…

Toyota Malaysia, please stop treat people here like stupid. For RM190K price, we dont deserve for new Dynamic Force NA/Hybrid engine?

Open your eyes big big and see your CHR sales! This supposed to sell like hot cake with right specification and price. But you throw in old 1.8 engine, remove Safety Sence to sell at RM150K? What a joke man!

You should sack your Product Management Team right now! They don’t understand market demand and trend.

As I read through the comments, somehow I have a feeling most people doesn’t know why Camry and similarly slow depreciating cars is popular. Simply put it, their trade in value allows us to Cash purchase a new car every 5 years (warranty period). It’s not exactly straight forward, since we do need to save for 10 years first. And that also assume you have the financial security and intention as well.

For example a well maintained 5 years old Camry can be traded back to UMW for minimum RM70k, Which means if add insurance and etc into the picture, there’s RM130k more needed. Lets name this as Camry 1 (2008), Camry 2 (2013) and Camry 3 (2018).

During Camry 1, we need to buy it at full value or unless you got lucky and won the car or inherited it from your long lost dead uncle, I digress. Say the full price is at RM190k, while servicing our loan (RM3420/month or RM225k borrowed), We save up RM2200/month into a flexible FD account and name this My New Car Every 5 Years account (MNCE5Y account). (This is assuming you have the money to do so, or you inherited that money as well. If you don’t, I wish you the best in earning that money too… or strike a lottery would work nicely too…)

5 Years down the road, MNCE5Y account now have RM154k (including interest of 3%), this means Camry 1 trade in for RM70k then top up RM130k (from MNCE5Y account) to get Camry 2 + RM34k interest bonus + Savings of RM26k as well. Where does this RM26k come from? The new car loan for the RM130k if you hadn’t saved is RM2600/month, add that up and it’s magically RM156k. RM156k-RM130k=RM26k. Now so far you had saved RM26k and earned RM34k. At this point we continue to save RM2200/month into FD account.

5 years later, Camry 2 sell, change Camry 3, get extra RM34k interest bonus and save RM26k again. Repeat and repeat until we no longer can afford to do so or we KO. Untung wei.. Untung!

OK… Well that isn’t really the real picture here… car prices increases over time, but at the very least this is the format my family has been using since last generation. The good thing about creating the MNCE5Y account and changing it every 10~15 years is simply because… Drum Rolls!!!

It’s a bit more economical to own a car for 10~15 years and at the same time create this FD account as well. Example of this Camry again RM190k, while a 15yo Camry trade in is about RM20k, leaving you with a bill of RM170k, the minimum FD that has ever been around is RM5k for a year. Which isn’t that bad if you are planning to save for a car 15 years from now but if you save in that RM170 or more, you’ll be getting RM260k at the end of the 15 years. Essentially you earned RM90k instead plus a new car and saved money on the RM35k loan interest. Or say you compound your FD by putting in RM5k 3 times a year, or RM1,250 month. Your maturity amount will still be around RM240k, which means you still earned RM70k plus a new car and saved on loan interest. But hey, that’s not the real savings, there’s the part where everyone seems to ignore most of the time, maintenance… Proper full maintenance…

What if we add in servicing and replacing broken parts? Well if we take the Camry into account again, in the first 5 years, there’s the warranty, so it boils down to regular UMW servicing every 6 months (fully synthetic) and changing tires at RM10k for the first 5 years. Now the tricky part is how you treat your car the next 10 years, if you are the kind that goes over speed bumps above 20km/h then your shocks will need to be replaced around year 10 for RM3k average. Other parts that breaks down due to wear and tear, re-tinting the windows, air conditioning, repainting (yes I do that every 10 years, shiny, blink blink), reupholstering, the figure then hovers around RM30k for that remaining 10 years to keep my car fresh and nice. So the initial RM70k-90k goes down to RM40k-60k respectively, still saving money though…

PS. some banks have RM1000 min deposits, and this works for other cars as well.

VW passat 2.0 wet dual clutch is selling at RM173k (discounted price) and this so call new camry selling at RM190k. Except the interior space Camry is bigger than Passat and add on some gadgets, I dont know why people will go for it.

Pls note Passat wet clutch does not has the issue like dry clutch. Although the part and service might be more expensive but it is now nearly RM17k cheaper. Do not tell me that Camry 2.5 is fuel saving as it is rated as 7.8L/100km but passat is 6.2L/100km. Even if it is fake and add on 20% fuel it is still about 7.4L/100km. I would say it is almost similar fuel consumption but power wise Camry is far behind and it even slower than passat 1.8.

Of course people are not solely looking for power but if there were option for higher power then why go for lower. I am looking for D segment car lately and I am waiting this Camry and new accord launch before I make final decision. Obviously camry is out, now gonna wait for accord to make decision.

UMW really take Malaysian as Ah Pek, only want those old, problem solved items. They never learn from previous Camry lesson! Since 2013, Camry no longer the best D segment car! Accord taking over!

    – 7” Colour Multi-information not the 4″
    – 8” DVD Touchscreen JBL not like other current models CHR, even Harrier also old design 7″. There is reason people prefer recon Harrier
    – Head-up Display

At 190k, old engine, and not even rear camera and 360 view? UMW is getting too greedy and backward, perhaps because of UMNO/BN links. Look at the list of BOD and it is self-explanatory. Time for a major revamp at the top, in line with New Malaysia. Toyota Japan should take note. It is not a surprise many loyal Toyota fans are considering moving to other car makers.

  • Brothers, if UMW use the high spec version then we have to pay the BMW 3 series price tag based on our taxation system. If you wait until 3 National Car come out, the price will be “upgraded” to GLC 200 price tag.
If your income is RM30 k or more per month then you can buy the new Camry. Lesser than that not advisable to buy. For your information, we only “entitle” to buy Axia based on our income calculation. Remember the Axia manual kosong version not automatic version.
Don’t angry first, later if the Ringgit drop to RM5 to USD1, then the Camry price will up to GLC250 price tag. Now the only thing left is —— “Harapan”.

I am planning to trade in my MB E200K (year 2005) for this car. For RM189,000, what can you get from Mercedes? Maybe a MB E200 (year 2015) or MB E250/E200 (year 2015)? No more warranty and its time to pay for the parts for wear and tear. Performance wise, I am not sure yet as I have not test drive this car. I plan to do it in the next 2 weeks.
