2019 Toyota Camry gets five-star ASEAN NCAP rating

Along with the launch of its new labelling system, ASEAN NCAP has also announced the crash test results for the 2019 Toyota Camry. The latest XV70 model, tested in Thai-spec 2.0G form, scored a full five-star safety rating with a total score of 91.47%.

Taking a closer look at the results, the Camry received 35.31 points out of a possible 36 for adult occupant protection (AOP), with 15.31 points in the frontal offset impact test, a full 16 points in the side impact test and a full four points for head protection technologies (HPT). As the AOP evaluation makes up 50% of the total score, that results in a percentage score of 49.04%.

As for child occupant protection (COP), the sedan secured 44.44 points out of 49, including a full 16 points for frontal impact, a full eight points for side impact, 11.44 points for ease of installation and nine points for an assessment of child seat-friendly features, leading to a percentage score of 22.68% out of 25.

Last but not least is the car’s Safety Assist score, for which the Camry received 14.22 points out of 18. This includes a full eight points for effective braking and avoidance technologies, three points for seat belt reminders, 1.22 points for blind spot technologies and a full two points for advanced safety assistance technologies, resulting in a percentage score of 19.75% out of 25.

The Toyota Camry is available in Malaysia in a single 2.5V variant, priced at RM189,900. It comes with seven airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control, ISOFIX rear child seat anchors and the full Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assists. This includes a Pre-Collision System (autonomous emergency braking), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beam.

I would be surprised if Camry don’t earn 5-star safety

Have you tested the Geely Boyue (Proton X70)? It feels much like a toy than a sophisticated car to me. Particularly, I like Toyota’s tuning, feeling more refined in overall.

The only thing wrong with it is it’s price. I’d pay 170k tops for it.

At its new hiked up prices? Better get a C-class or 3Series.

Nope. For same prices. Better get 2 Proton X70 , more spacious and practical. C-class or 3Series so cramped

Pray hard that the new 2.0L engine (6AR-FBS) and the new 2.5L Hybrid (A25A-FXS) will arrive at our shore soon, soon, soon.

    TOYOTA DO YOU HEAR ME!??!?!!!

And make it CKD… please… sort it out. I love you…

Until the standards are on par with NHTSA or EuroNap Standard, it is all whitewash.

Plus, when all the bells and whistles are in, better make sure the pricing stays the same.

  • Impressive scores… The low marks are on “Childseat-friendly feature” and certain ASEAN countries don’t offer BST as standard. The Malaysia 2.5L model would have got overall score of 94% or more… Only drawback is the old engine and transmission….

I have seen a couple of the Camry in white and red color and they certainly exude class on the road. Love it!

  • Toyota Malaysia always introduce outdated technology at premium price. If the dynamic forced engine is introduced with full safety suite as standard across all models , then the current pricing can be justified.
What is wrong with the management team?
The sales of Toyota cars are already trumped by Honda Malaysia these few years.
Yet this is how the Toyota Malaysia plans to counter
    Honda Malaysia.
