Back in June, Tesla CEO Elon Musk was reported as saying that a significant investment and relationship with India was in the works, and there were plans to execute this “as fast as humanly possible.” That may be just around the corner, with no less than an assembly plant in the country in the works, according to the Ahmedabad Mirror.
The news publication says that Tesla is expected to set up a manufacturing plant in Gujarat, with an official announcement likely at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January. The report added that the EV automaker has chosen the state due to its conducive business environment, with the state government presenting Sanand, Becharaji and Dholera as location options for its plant.
The state is already home to a number of manufacturing plants from various automakers, including Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Morris Garage.
The report added that Tesla has already been engaged in negotiations with the central government and was seeking concessions that would facilitate a smoother entry into the Indian market. The demands for concessions were part of the broader discussions around easing regulatory hurdles and ensuring a conducive business environment for Tesla’s operations in the country, the news publication said.
Earlier this year, Musk said Tesla would be picking a location for the next Tesla Gigafactory by the end of 2023, and locations that were speculated included India as well as Indonesia. The brand already has five Gigafactory locations in operation (Nevada, New York, Shanghai, Berlin and Texas), with a sixth being announced for Mexico. An Indian factory would be the American EV maker’s seventh such plant.
The overtures have been long in the making. Back in 2021, the company registered a company in India, and there were initial reports that sales of Tesla cars were to begin that year, but plans didn’t work out. It was said that Tesla wanted tax cuts for CBU imports because it didn’t have a plant in India, but the government would not budge. This of course will no longer be an issue if Tesla starts producing cars in India.

Habeslah Madani dah gagal!

Kami lebih suke Raptor, alphard & Mercedes ..
With you, your kind and your mindset, no wonder the likes of PN will take over the country
Yiddin, memadey n damn lh paling Berjaya mampu miliki Ilham tower
Aku suka makan kari & pandu kereta (ber)masala
hope the quality control not like the Apple’s Made iPhone.
Another LAMP to the SLAUGHTER. ( Legal recourse are useless )
Indonesia emotional damage
Who to say Indonesia cannot get a gigafactory for Asean market. Madani might still end up being a loser again.
india made tesla? christ dont ever bring them here
Good luck.
TESLA is going to experience the India curse first hand the hard way. BYD is laughing at TESLA. LOL. India is a zionist supporter and anti-islam. God will make sure India will not be successful. Bye bye TESLA. Sila TEST LAH nasib kamu di India. Hahahahaha
Butthurt ccp ah beng in disguise lol, take competition like a man la.
What kind of comment is this ? Why are you so butt hurt that Tesla went to India and not to Indo or MY? So far GOD is helping India and not Malaysia.
Hopeless you la..
Pros: You can be sure that the gov won’t introduce new laws overnight that ruin your operation. Also, you don’t get the stunt of banning your Tesla to certain location in the name of patriotism. No worry about your tech getting stolen.
Cons: The quality won’t be as good as the factory in China. Take iPhone as a lesson.
Good luck doing business in India
See what kind of absurb law will penalise this car maker
(Maruti) Suzuki is highly successful in India for the past 40+ years, meanwhile Suzuki cars have virtually disappeared from malaysia. Shall we talk shit about the “absurd laws” here? :)
India and conducive business environment rarely belong in the same sentence. If Modiji scams Musk, habislah.
Good luck Elon, hopefully you can handle Indian workforce and redtape
Here’s adding oil to fire: For anyone thinking that why not Malaysia? Gov has failed. Please remember business is here to earn money, they want cheap and good labour.
Malaysians no doubt is good, got standard. But we also more expensive. When ringgit drop everyone complains but nobody think that’s actually one of the reason manufacturing job comes here in general, unless it’s manufacturing high value/margin goods.
Made in India FOR SALE in InDIA market Only
Kejap malaysia, kejap indo, kejap thailand… Last2 india hahahaha
because india supports israel? and indonesia/malaysia supports palestine? hmm
Semua pun nak kait Palestine. Tak boring ke? Aku dah rindu sangat kat kepci, mekdi, stabak & Milo ni. Bila la bulih makan balik
Dah lah Tambi, apa kamu susah bila kami boikot syarikat Zionist? Ko gi makan nasi kari berpirisa tahi kamu la.Tak de pun kami kecoh hal kamu
There are five Giga factories now. Three in US, one in Berlin and one in China. Why would they put another one in SE Asia with low GDP per capita in general (Singapore notwithstanding, with a tiny car market), already served more than adequately by Giga Shanghai?
Geographically a Giga in India makes more sense. Not everything has to be about PN, BN, etc.
Hmmm Tesla has not learn from BYD on what happen to BYD in India…..is a trap doing business there… so many get burned… including our own Maxis…well good luck doing business there.
Those who are mourning, keep mourning. Just like Google or Microsoft which as Americans of Indian descent in leadership, has the largest development centers in India after the United States, so naturally expect Tesla with over 20% of leadership which is made up of Americans of Indian origin.
