Proton eMas 7 – R3 edition render by Theophilus Chin

Proton eMas 7 – R3 edition render by Theophilus Chin

Every new model from a national carmaker is greatly anticipated, and so it is with the Proton eMas 7. What if it was given a sportier aesthetic by the carmaker’ motorsport division R3? Here, visual rendering maestro Theophilus Chin has offered his take on what an R3-styled version of the electric SUV could be like.

In comparison with real-life R3 editions of Proton’s production models like the Saga R3 Limited Edition and the Iriz R3 Limited Edition, this R3-styled rendition of the eMas 7 is even more sparing with its use of yellow highlights over a black exterior.

For a start, this eMas 7 does without the yellow band over the middle of its front fascia as well as on the front lower lip, where the contrasting trim is located on the Saga and Iriz variants. The eMas 7 does, however feature the contrasting yellow strips at the corners of the front bumper.

Along its sides, Theo follows the prevailing R3 theme where the yellow contrast is applied to the sills, as well as the side mirror covers, while its alloy wheels continue to be of a two-tone finish.

At the rear, the bodywork of the eMas 7 is carried over, and has been given the R3 contrasting yellow highlights on the lower sections of its rear bumper, with an R3 badge located directly below the eMas 7 badge on the tailgate, with the Proton badging remaining in place in the centre.

As for the upcoming Proton eMas 7, the electric SUV has been confirmed to share the powertrain from the Galaxy E5, which is the single, front-mounted motor producing 218 PS and 320 Nm. This will propel the eMas 7 from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

Improvements for the eMas 7 over the Galaxy E5 it is based on include a 400 mm water wading depth rating that is greater than that of the Galaxy E5, aimed at providing added protection against floods.

The Proton eMas 7 will also get a revised suspension setup compared to that of the Galaxy E5, which has been confirmed by a Proton spokesperson. A sampling of the Galaxy E5 on local roads found the setup to be very soft, and so a stiffer setup can be expected for the Proton EV.

You’ll get to see the Proton eMas 7 in the metal this weekend, as it is set to be on display at the paultan.org Auto Car Expo (ACE) 2024, which will take place October 26-27 at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC). There, the interior will be open and shown to the public for the very first time. Entry is free, so do check it out.

While we may not have the right to dictate the actions of others, we do have the responsibility to express our views on what we believe is right.

Since I joined this platform, I’ve often come across news related to car renderings by “Chin”, especially during the periods surrounding Proton or Perodua announcements. These renderings include hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and pick-up trucks. However, it appears that none of these concepts have been officially accepted, which can be misleading. I suspect that many other users share my sentiments, as I’ve seen negative comments about the renderings.

I respect Chin’s passion and professionalism, but differences of opinion are inevitable. I am often frustrated by the prevalence of this type of news, as it can seem disconnected from reality. If the administrators are aware of this and continue to publish such content, I find myself questioning the rationale behind it.

I would welcome thoughts and comments from other readers on this matter. If anyone is offended by my comments, I sincerely apologize.

Theo Chin’s designs are always way off the mark and is just a cut-and-paste of different design elements from different cars put together. His renders do not generate any excitement nor have they ever been close to the mark. It is indeed a curiosity why news outlets like Paultan continue giving coverage to these pointless works merely to entertain a flight of fancy that does not interest most readers.
