The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has released new vehicle registration data for the month of October 2024 and surprise, surprise – the ride-hailing car of choice, the Perodua Bezza, continues to lead the sales charts with 9,772 units sold. This brings total sales for the year to date to 81,946, and with two months left to go, the entry-level sedan is set to come close to hitting the 100,000 mark all on its own.
Coming in second is the Axia with 8,318 units sold last month (73,185 units YTD), followed by the larger Myvi with 6,965 units sold (59,736 units YTD). In fact, with the Alza MPV and Ativa SUVs continuing to sell well, Perodua holds five of the top six positions, which is a stunning feat.
The single non-Perodua model in the upper half-dozen is the Proton Saga in fourth, with sales far behind its rival at 5,691 units sold; however, its YTD figure of 58,455 units means it’s close to deposing the Myvi. The closest non-national competitor, meanwhile, is the Toyota Vios with 2,775 units sold in October.
Overcoming a slow start to the year (presumably due to the recall in January), the B-segment sedan managed to overhaul its sworn rival, the Honda City, with year-to-date sales reaching 22,905 units compared to the City’s 22,757. This is despite the latter also including sales of the hatchback, whereas the Yaris is considered separate from the Vios in JPJ’s data.
Both cars are outselling the similarly-priced Proton S70, which doesn’t even feature in the top ten, although the national carmaker considers the car to be a segment higher. The sedan was even trounced by the X50 SUV, which just made the cut with October sales of 2,035 units (18,513 units YTD), despite Proton initially predicting the opposite.
Above the X50 sits the sole commercial vehicle and pick-up truck on the list, the Toyota Hilux. Nearly as many people (and businesses) bought the workhorse as they did the City, with 2,028 units sold in October and 19,917 in the year to date.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Looking at Hilux monthly sales past 10 months it doesn’t seem like removal of diesel subsidy dented its sales at all
ada lagi subsidy, directly to Malaysian and essential industry lines’ diesel vehicle.
Common in this list
– cheapest or 2nd-cheapest by category
Most of the hilux sales were in sabah sarawak thus no effect on subsidy removal. Look at the sales of Hyundai Staria and Kia Carnival, those are badly effected
So all Proton new models (Geely rebadged) less popular than City & Vios? I wonder why S70 not in the picture
Given people mentality & stereotypes here, no surprise at all. I bet they didn’t even know their iphone & tesla were made in china, using china tech.
It is people’s choice if they want to hate on china and chinese product. Who are you judge?
I mean…who are you anyway?
Price too high, look like senior citizen car.
Can’t believe vios win city and can’t believe axia win myvi.
Vios beat City & City Hatchback combined. Yaris is in another story.
Why can’t believe? Vios & City is neck and neck in sales in Thailand and Indonesia as well.
Saga is almost 8k cheaper than Bezza..but still lah behind. Why?
Because engine is old still using VVT compared to Dual VVT-i (Bezza) while that 2nd Gen Proton Saga was launched since 2008 (with too many facelift) while all others like the Waja, Gen-2, Waja, Exora, Preve & Suprima all has been phased out.
Sebab leceh kena tukar timing belt 80k km, dah tukar pun ada risk putus kalau high mileage. Petrol rm50 saga 400km+, bezza 500km+.
JPJ should separate City Hatchback stats from City sedan.
the dislike butthurt combining both sedan and hatchback for a city still cant beat vios
Kesian H. The fall of the mighty thanks to questionable reliability and angry past and current users
H quality and reliability memang teruk, i sebagai user kini pun ingin tukar brand and banned H forever. Even my child also will banned H cars in future. Cuz they asyik blame user tak tahu guna H cars.
what to do. being the cheapest and easy loan approval.
Seeing pLoton s70 not in the list really makes me happy. Thank you Malaysians
Sad day for warga SjkC
Where’s the C-segment wannabe priced at B-segment, Proton S70 that supposed to be Vios & City killer?
Hmm ofc laa Vios sales more than city..

E Rm80,600.00 (retailed at 89,600)
G Rm86,500.00 (retailed at 95,600)

H tak bagi diskaun ke? Are you outdated, not informed, or choose not to see it? Teruk sgt sales dorang skrg. Must be panicking for them.
So our market is being dominated by Toyota…
Only 2 proton and 1 honda in that list.
