You’ve seen the top 20 car models in October 2025, and a separate ranking for the EV sub-segment; now here’s the overall sales league table for auto brands in Malaysia as of last month.
The top four of Perodua, Proton, Toyota and Honda retain their spots, but BYD was fifth last month with 1,748 units. The Chinese EV giant was eighth in September, so it overtook compatriot Chery (1,347), Omoda and Jaecoo (Chery’s brands, 1,310) and Mitsubishi (1,210) to be here, powered by recent launches like the affordable Seal 6 sedan and Atto 2 SUV duo.
Mazda (849) and Mercedes-Benz (778) round up the top 10 in October; the latter is one spot ahead of premium arch-rival BMW in 11th (655). The see-saw that is Tesla saw a sharp drop from ninth in September to 19th in October (320). There’s a new name in the chart, and it’s iCaur in 20th (310). iCaur is yet another brand by Chery, and its first product here is the 03 EV SUV, launched in September.
With iCaur in the list, Chinese carmakers have seven entries in the top 20. The growing contingent is made up of BYD, Chery, Omoda | Jaecoo, Great Wall Motor, Zeekr, Jetour and iCaur. Remarkably, four of those (or five if you consider O&J as separate brands) brands are under the Chery Group (Jetour is as well, although it’s managed separately in Malaysia).
Looking at the year-to-date chart below, Perodua is sitting supreme at the top; its 289,210 units in the first 10 months of 2025 is more than Proton, Toyota and Honda combined. BYD might have edged out Chery in October, but the Wuhu company’s namesake brand is seventh (10,389), 200+ units ahead of the EV specialist (10,165). However, Chery’s Omoda | Jaecoo is looking comfortable in fifth – overall, Chery is the biggest Chinese force in town, miles ahead of GWM.
Mercedes-Benz (7,644) and Mazda (7,110) round off the top 10, with BMW a spot outside the first half (6,307). Further down, Jetour seems to have settled at around 300+ units a month for a permanent spot in the top 20.
With two months of sales to go, will it be another record year for table toppers Perodua? Proton is launching the anticipated MC3 Saga soon, but it might be too late in the year for the A-segment sedan to make a huge impact.

above RM100k, car choices are for rich geeks and often like boutique choices! the more variants the better!
otherwise, fighting at sub RM100k, it is a big market at about 50,000 units per month.
why would 100k be for rich geeks ? its easily afforded by even M40 no?
basically it is ccp brands against the rest of the free world
If all those sub-brands came together as Chery group, they’re replacing BYD as the 5th in place.
Funny brand positioning I’d say.
But whatever floats their boat I guess.
looking at the gap to T & H …. Good to know at least knowing Malaysian not that many waterfish…. Just some only watch tiktok trend blind follower getting the CHINA car because of “luxurious” interior and “techy” stuff… LOL…
spacex is deeply embedeed with usa military , plus starlink is used in myanmar scam center operations . so why would malaysians support tesla?
Internet was invented by US military too..why you use them?
invented != owned. internet isnt owned nor controlled by US military.
After an almost 10 years Geely-Proton marriage, this is something they could be proud of. In terms of percentage, there is an increase of over 50% in sales volume but still hardly beating Perodua and neither back to Proton’s own sales figures some 20 years ago.
Its mind-boggling how Honda sales this year overall is half of Toyota’s LMAO
Honda no “Hailat” model. Malaysian are obsessed with Toyoda Hailat
