Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat (ALR) recently reminded the public through Facebook that cycling is prohibited on the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), including on the motorcycle lanes, saying it’s risky, disrupts traffic flow as well as endangers the cyclist(s) and other road users.
The post has triggered quite a debate, with some saying the motorcycle lanes are sparingly used and others supporting the rule. Needless to say, there can be a significant speed difference between the two vehicles, and safety must always come first. What are your thoughts, two-wheeler fans?

Wonderful news!!!!! Kudos to KESAS!
These shameless idiots also love riding on federal highway too. And got mad when got honked at
entitled riders
Motosikal also dilarang guna laluan utama but yet..
TQ. Should have been done earlier.
Aiya ride on Federal Highway motorcycle lane la. For the amount of use it gets from actual motorcycles, might as well convert it to a bicycle lane. And for the literal minded that litter the site here is the /s.
Discrimination of cyclist !
so says the basikal lajak dewasa
Concentrate on your talk show Departing For Awhile
Should be prohibited on ALL highways and main road.
No it shouldn’t. It’s not logical. There is motorcycle lanes that can be safely used.
If still want to pursue blanket banning even on motorcycle lanes….its called purposeful discrimination without reason.
Go cycle in the park la
A highway serves its purpose, where bicycles don’t fit at all. And since there are purposely built motorcycle lane almost the entire stretch of kesas, it just doesnt make sense at all why bikers want to ride on the same path of 4 wheel vehicles, endangering themselves.
I still remember though some 15 years ago when a police patrol instructed me not to use the bike lane after 10pm since the lack of road users may pose hazard to myself such as theft and/or losing control and crashed and not found until body decomposed.
You would be helpless when you are alone in such condition.
This is total discrimination for cyclist. How on earth can bicycle post safety risk to traffic? How different is use of motor lane difference from non-highway road? I hope ALR is jantan enough to explain this to the cyclist.
imagine you’re driving at 60kmh and suddenly a wild cyclist appeared, going 5kmh and taking up 30% of the lane. And if anything happens, the cyclist has ZERO insurance to pay for your damages.
U drive at motorcycle lane?
Speaking of Kesas bike lane even without cyclists it’s one heck of a scary road to use especially when it twists and turns around interchanges and exits.
As a cyclist I have used Kesas and federal motorcycle lane and I dont think it is unsafe. When we ride we ride in groups normally speeds range 25-30kmh. Not many motorcycle using the Motorcycle lane. The one that causes accident in Motorcycle lane are Motorcyclist their speed is more that the speed limit allowed!!
there are 3 types of cyclists:
1. someone who uses it as a transportation
2. people who rides to show off their expensive bikes and gears.
3. kids on their basikal nyamuk
What about motorcyclists zooming over 100km/h on kapchai on the car lanes? Kesas has the best bike lanes, but sadly most motorcyclists are not using them. And no enforcement at all.
Motorcycle lane is available throughout KESAS. WHY BAN CYCLIST on these lane when it is clear that it is separated from the main highway? KESAS needs to revisit this rule. Tak masuk akal.
Usually motorcycle lane has two lanes, the faster motorcycle can use the right lane to cut slower cyclists. So what’s the issue?
“HoBi KaMi mAhAL”
GOOD!
fully support. highway and most roads not meant to be shared with cyclists.
ride at your own risk and without insurance coverage
dont forget, cyclist also dont have insurance to cover damages done to your car.
i doubt even after the ban if you hit them you are free from any offense, hobi kami mahal, they will sue you till no pants to wear.
If cyclists are banned from using the bike lane, motorcyclist should be banned from using the highway, don’t be double standard
Dah KERAjaan pun tak sediakan tempat, diBangkok mereka sediakan kawasan khas 24/7 utk sukan kayuh ni, cuba tanya haji google tu.
malaysia is still a 3rd world country. European countries has supported cycling as they encourage people to go green. Malaysia is backward like indonesia, bangladesh, thailand and philippines where cyclist are frowned upon.
Even motorbike rider are risking their life at KESAS highway. Many years ago before MCO, bikers are not allowed at KESAS highway.. but now most bikers are riding on the highway.
