Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said that the country’s fuel supply remains secure, although rising global fuel prices continue to strain the government’s finances as it works to keep Budi95 petrol at RM1.99 a litre, Bernama reports.
“So, fuel supply is assured, but prices are rising. This is not a problem originating from us, but from external factors. That is why we are compelled to face the challenge of rising fuel prices,” he said in his speech at the natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry‘s monthly assembly today.
Despite higher shipping and insurance costs brought about by the West Asian conflict, which are affecting fuel prices, Malaysia is still able to secure sufficient supply thanks to good relations with Iran, Russia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, Anwar said.
“We are fortunate. Malaysia is among the ASEAN countries with a secure fuel supply. Malaysia still maintains RON 95 (petrol). We have only reduced the quota from 300 litres to 200 because we are burdened by the cost of subsidising petrol and diesel,” The Star quoted him as saying.
He added that Malaysia’s RM1.99-a-litre RON 95 petrol is among the world’s cheapest, beaten only by a few countries such as Brunei. “If (global) prices rise sharply, (government subsidies) could exceed RM6 billion a month. At current levels, it is about RM5 billion monthly – imagine, over 10 months, that is RM50 billion from government funds,” the prime minister said.
“I am using real-time data in Hormuz now. You can see the congestion there. The strait is narrow, making it difficult to ensure the safety of vessels, especially with pressure from the United States and Iran,” Anwar continued, adding that Malaysian vessels, including Petronas-operated ones, are among the many ships navigating the congested waters.

just reinstate ron91 back with floating price. its far cheaper than rom95. only in bolehland where they created problem, and be hero to solve it. yucks
after u become the hero who offers unlimited warranty for engines damaged by knocking due to ron91
The claim that a petrol engine will be damaged by using RON 91 fuel is **incorrect for the modern small cc petrol engine**.
* **Manufacturer Specification**: Modern small cc petrol engine is designed to run on a minimum octane rating of **87 AKI**, which is equivalent to **RON 91**. Using fuel at this rating, is **perfectly safe** and will not cause engine knocking or damage.
* **Cause of Knocking**: Engine knocking is typically caused by factors like **low oil level/pressure**, **dirty or old oil**, or **worn internal components**, not by using fuel that meets the manufacturer’s minimum specification. Attributing knocking to RON 91 fuel is a misunderstanding of engine mechanics.
The term ‘knocking’ in relation to the petrol RON rating is related to imperfect fuel combustion, and may also be known as ‘pinging’ or ‘detonation’. It would be foolish to assume that the spark ignition engines in all current models of motor vehicles that are now sold in Malaysia, can safely run on RON91 or 92 petrol without adverse long term effects.
In order for such an engine to run on RON92 petrol, the ECU mapping has to be programmed to have the ignition advance curve minimised as much as possible to avoid knocking or pinging. This means that the engine will not be operating at its best possible efficiency, resulting in less output power & slightly higher fuel consumption. Usually, there’s a knock sensor, in case pinging still occurs, which reduces further the ignition advance when pinging is detected.
Fully agreed! Our toyotas run perfectly with ron92 petrol
Not all Toyotas.. For example, the GR Yaris turbo minimum recommended fuel RON rating is 95, but for best performance, it requires RON98.
Toyota GR Yaris can only run on minimum RON95 and needs RON98 for the best performance. Thus not all Toyotas can run perfectly on RON92.
Make sure compliance international SOP to EURO5 grade petrol
Well once it goes up don’t bring it down, this is your chance to end the subsidy drug addiction, do away with the subsidy. People need to curb their joyrides and needless wastage of fuel. Vehicles that are way old to be fit for the roads need to be totally written off, those are highest fuel consumers and there are a lot of those junk out on the roads. High fuel prices will force those low-lifes to finally get rid of those dastardly trash cans on wheels.

u r still commenting like an immature child.
malaysian ic details are already known by jpn bcoz jpn issue the ic.
subsidised ron95 is meant for malaysian citizens to purchase & to be used in malaysian registered vehicles, not for foreigners & foreign registered car.
i see the username, i expect same attitude, i scroll down, not worth a read,
It’s sad that the government is desperately trying to explain fuel prices 101 to the dumbest segment of the population, while some politicians take advantage of the situation.
It’s a catch-22: if you keep the population smart, they’ll see your wrongdoing; if you keep them dumb, they won’t understand what you’re trying to explain. The worst part in this country is that the dumbest genuinely think they’re smart.
feels like you talking about yourself
So what is the “smart” suggestion you have?
Which segment are you then ?
Its not that hard for them to fix. You don’t have to beat around the bush, just say it out loud with me- >
It’s all about VOTES.
The so called dumb population are a good % informed, they are just selfish they don’t care the harm it does to the nation’s overall well being where that subsidy money could be well invested rather than wasting it over dumbos who drive around in 20+ year trash cans on wheels. This deluded gomen actually thinks by providing subsidies they have a chance in the coming GE, they don’t but they will try anyway. The patriotic thing they can actually do is remove the subsidies and give it to diesel but only for a short while with strong incentives for logistics to move towards electrification rapidly. Your everyday goods are the ones impacted by high diesel costs, way way more than the lousy petrol ICE cars meant for personal use.
You’re like a banana / coconut with gender-crisis problem
I still remember that someone says he was the finance minister, he knows petronas profits billions which can be used to offset fuel subsidy for the rakyat.. i wonder where he is now..
We are literally sacrificing our health for cheap petrol. Anwar has already announced 10% cut to the Ministry of Health’s budget at this moment. Next month might be another cut to Ministry of Health’s budget if petrol price stay high. Which one should we priroritise?
Whether it’s subsidised or unsubsidised, the pollutants are still unhealthy..
what gary means is , a health ministry budget cut is bad for our health.
Even if there is no cut to health ministry budget, exhaust gas from burnt petrol is still not good for your health, which may also cause your brain to die.
yes captain obvious we all know that exhaust pollutants are bad for health. but you literally misunderstood the original comment from Gary .
.. you konk out much faster from breathing CO from engine exhaust than when after MoH budget is reduced..
what should be equally obvious, is no one will intentionally breathe exhaust fumes direct from the tailpipe (unless they are suicidal). however a large majority of malaysian population will eventually have to rely on MOH facilities because various illness, whether they like it or not.
.. got brain already know that a decrease in the health ministry’s budget would not mean that all government run hospitals, clinics & other medical facilities will immediately shut down, and at the same time, many people will suddenly fall sick.
The MOH budget cut was proposed by the treasury sec-gen. In response, the MOH sec-gen will submit a counter proposal to the treasury, which include identifying non-essential areas where cuts could potentially be made, provided they do not involve core services or human resource requirements. Thus, any MOH budget cut had yet to be finalised.
PMX.Dont chop Health budget. Thanks for maintaining Ron 95 price.
Chop the Education budget..the worst performer..with rapes, murders, gangsterism, bullying at very alarming levels.
And sack the incompetent menteri. She is a waste of public funds.
Dont compromise kesihatan of rakyat.Kementerian Pelajaran, should be targeted, for cuts.
