Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Proton S70 is a five-seat, front-wheel-drive C-segment sedan for buyers who want turbocharged petrol performance in a conventional four-door body. Prices start from RM73,800, and every version uses a 1.5-litre 178 hp petrol engine with a wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

S70 in 2026 — what's new

The 2026 Proton S70 is the SS11 MC1 range, sold in Executive, Premium, Flagship and Flagship X forms. All four retain the 1.5-litre 178 hp turbo petrol powertrain, front-wheel drive and wet dual-clutch automatic transmission. A facelift has been spotted testing in Malaysia during 2026, but no confirmed Malaysian-market production specifications or equipment changes have been announced. The current MC1 range therefore remains the reference point.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should start with the RM73,800 Executive. It gets the same 1.5-litre 178 hp engine, wet dual-clutch automatic, front-wheel drive and five-seat layout as every other S70. The Premium costs RM79,800, the Flagship RM89,800 and the Flagship X RM94,800. On paper, you are not paying for mechanical changes as you move up the range; check the equipment list and pay more only for the trim items you genuinely want.

Verdict

The S70 makes a direct case for itself with 178 hp from a 1.5-litre turbo engine, a wet DCT and C-segment sedan packaging from RM73,800. It is also established as Malaysia's best-selling C-segment sedan, with more than 40,000 deliveries since launch. Running costs matter here: the MC1 retains the same fully synthetic oil, filters and seven-speed DCT service basis as the original 1.5T schedule.
