Terengganu offers perks to Proton taxi drivers

Proton Saga Taxi

The Terengganu state government is offering taxi drivers who are currently using old Nissans and Toyotas a subsidy of RM10,000 if they want to replace their aging cars with a new Proton Saga or Proton Wira taxi. For taxi drivers that are already using Proton taxis, the government will reimburse up to RM4,000 for refurbishment costs. This is for taxi drivers who have not repainted their vehicles.

Terengganu Rural Development, Entrepreneur and Cooperative Committee chairman Datuk Mohamed Awang Tera said that this subsidy is part of the state’s efforts to reinvigorate the image of Terengganu taxis, but some say that repelling criticism that the Terengganu is not supportive of the national car is part of the reason.

Datuk Mohamed Awang Tera also revealed that a circuit for car and motorcycle races in Mak Lagam Chukai Kemaman is in final stages of construction.

after all the fuzz and the drama about proton perdana they feel guilty about the issue and now asking people to use proton taxi, do you think we rakyat are stupid or what, now they are giving free money to taxi driver to use proton where the money come from duit rakyat also. why don’t they start to helping the rakyat by getting in the investor.
Good for nothing. Wasting people money and also spending for unnesesary.

They let their exco use Mercs E-class, and told taxi drivers to drive saga? Give them subsidy to buy the A-class la.

Why only for drivers who are driving old Toyotas & Nissans? Why not those who drive old Iswaras as well. Its so lame that Malaysian taxis are cars which are quarter century old.

“Do you think that RM3 million is a big deal in the state?”

oh after ‘plundering’ the people’s money, they have the guts to say that to the media?? Imagine how that much money can be used to build schools, amenities, welfare to the poor…

I wish god burn him in hell for eternity.

    it’s ok la..
if taxi all merz.. are you all willing to pay tripple riding charge?

In some other way.. They are better from their HQ gov.

1 – At least, they exposed their new car buy. (what about the senyap-senyap one in another negeri? some had 2 merz! but they keep shy lah. )

2 – They do to improve their taxi service.. Maybe it will be rare to see old and ugly taxis in trengganu. (NOT LIKE HQ GOV, those said.. “We cut the subsidi to improve Public Transportation etc” – but after years.. nothing happen.. even the small and single one. except – new bus contract for his beloved ‘in law’ one)

Some how. we must look at a bright side.. even it’s only a little..

Aik, takpa la.. teksi kat KT tuh sedih negok nya.. dulu kata govt nak bagi RM 10K for every more than 15 yrs old scrap car.. mana nya?

I really think our taxi in KL should be Saga with different facelift.. or else to those who bought solid colour saga will have strikingly similar care when compared to taxi.. the pathetic state of our taxi service (esp in KL and not to forget Pg, JB & Ipoh) really need some total overhaul.. we really need standard colur and meter enforcement (and proper rates to be fair to the driver) is badly needed. Used to be in the 70’s & 80’s where everyone can recognised taxi from far due to striking black & yellow like Din Teksi comic.. The Opel Record, Isuzu Gemini, Toyota Crown, Nissan Cressida & good old Merc were the common sights of KL.. Although now we have the red and white Iswara, there are some blue limo (Citra or Sonata), yellow perdana, light green iswara, how stupid it can be? I dont mind the red and white sentra, as long as its standardise..

Now taxi drivers can race safely in Chukai racing circuit!

A few reasons that i can think of why the state Govt is proposing the Saga taxis:
    1. Feeling guilty after buying the Merc.
    2. To show PM that they ARE supporting the National car after bashing them.
    3. To show to ACA and the Rakyat that they are ‘transparent’ in the transaction.
    4. To replace and standardize the taxis in Trengganu, many of which are ‘classic cars’ like Merc 190D ‘Batman’ form the 60s and 70s.
    5. To prove that Saga spare parts and maintenence is indeed more expensive than Merc. (Just kidding!)

However for taxis in the coastal areas, East or West, extra anti rust coating is a must, because the salty air will corrode the body parts very quickly.

The taxis should also come with alternative NGV fuel system, built in by Proton, not by installers without ISO certification due to safety reasons.

The Terengganu Govt are Pathetic. Sad, sad bunch. How dare they spoil the image of the state by making up excuses for misappropriation and now, they upped the ante by making another lame story about taxis.

Someone better tell the state govt they had better stop being silly. It’s seriously annoying us.

Hmm, taxi owners in Terengganu are getting nice stuff there. Only problem is which budget did they took out to finance the taxis in the first place? A lot has been lost with the Perdana Merc thing, now to finance taxis. MPKT budget cut few thousands ringgit?

Where have you guys been? Dudes this is why they changed the MB. Well the palace rather. This was planned in J’s tenure as MB. People in Terengganu call this the JE Syndrome. It has spread far and wide throughout the state. New MB don’t like the snobbishness of the Exco. This will teach them a lesson. Sad thing is, a lot of local Terengganu people think that the Exco ‘deserves’ a bigger car because of their status. Many locals forget that they are supposed to be humble servants of the people and not their masters.
