Nissan Sunny to begin production in India in October

Over in India, Nissan has unveiled its Sunny mid-size sedan, which is set to begin selling in the country in October. The car will be the automaker’s second model to be produced at its Chennai factory, and is part of a five model range that the company plans to assemble locally, reports state.

The introduction of the Sunny seeks to address the growing demand for mid-sized sedans in the country, brought about by a rising disposable income in the 350-million strong middle class population as well as growth in the economy.

The Sunny is expected to challenge class stalwarts from Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai, namely the Swift Dzire, the SX4 and the latter’s Verna sedan. The company is looking at the car to drive local sales to 40,000 units in the current financial year, up from the 13,030 it sold in the same period last year.

The company currently makes the Micra hatchback in the Chennai plant, which it jointly owns with Renault. Production capacity is expected to be 400,000 vehicles a year by the middle of next year, with sizeable export numbers being planned by the end of 2012. The Sunny is also expected to be an integral cog in the company’s mid-term ASEAN plans, very likely to be the second eco-car model built for the Thai market, with production set to begin in September.

This model already few year old, yet our ETCM never introduce it as new model for our “upgrade” Sentra. Disappointed with ETCM still selling old models for Sentra and Serena.

Even India is getting the latest sunny, yet we Malaysian is suckers cause we still get 13yrs Sentra from our unbeloved Tan Chong! Same goes to Latio because overseas such as Singapore is getting facelift since last year but here we get “old stock”.

ETCM is a profit oriented company. They only look at their bottom line. If anybody feel like they would want to make strategic decision for ETCM, why not buy into the company?

The fault not fully from Tan Chong. The relationship between government and Tan Chong is like oil and water. So Tan Chong will have hard time to bring latest models of the vehicles. JPJ will try to delay or picky on the Tan Chong’s vehicle proposals for selling in Boleh Land.

    • EXACTLY; its all about politics lah.
back in the days before sick Proton came into the market and forced down our throats ( slapping non national cars with 40% ++ duties and other taxes etc), other genuinely competetive cars were priced out.

during that time 1 of 4 new cars registered were Nissan/Datsun. ( prior 1983….)

TanChong is having difficulty getting APs etc…you leave that chinaman company alone, they know what they are doing.

In fact, credit to them in spite of 20 years of sick proton ( and then perodua), they are still in business offering value for money deals.
