If, for some strange reason, you find a 200 PS Beetle 2.0 TSI insufficient, there will soon be a hotter Bug you can choose. Tipped to be called the Volkswagen Beetle R, the new super Bug could get the latest Golf R Mk7’s 300 PS/380 Nm 2.0 litre turbo four, or at least the Mk6’s 270 PS/350 Nm motor.
Also unknown is whether it’ll get the Golf R’s Haldex 4MOTION all-wheel drive system or, like the Scirocco R, offer the same amount of power exclusively through the front wheels. Either way, that would add a serious dose of speed to the Beetle. No, this won’t be your daughter’s car; it’ll be yours.
Ignore the sporty bodykit on this test mule – that’s the optional R-Line kit readily available in international markets. When it goes on sale towards the end of 2014, expect the hot new car to look more like the Beetle R Concept that was shown in Frankfurt three years ago.
Never been so hot for the Bug? This one will change your mind.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
beetle at 250-300k? gosh. they really know how to make money…
That’s one heck of a very fast and powerful bug! :)
Crazy bug on steriod !
if I got this, I will put no. 53 on it.
What! No rear engine rear wheel drive configuration?
What a Porsche wannabe or it’s the other way around.
For RR configuration, buy Cayman/Boxster, or keep your old Beetle…. This is derived from mainstream VW Golf FF platform… More economical that way, besides VW Golf is not a bad car by any means..
Only 911 is RR. Both Cayman and Boxster are MR.
Always love the Bug.. But never like the price here.. Sigh…
2litres 200hp not safe suel because no force induction. Turbicharged will be much better.
The thing I don’t like about AWD/4WD cars (Golf R, Evo, Audi) is that they will either understeer or won’t slide at all because they are 50/50 torque distribution. I just hope this Beetle R will have AWD/4WD but rear-biased to help the back end slide a little or make it feel like the classic Beetle of the 1950s till 1970s. Maybe around 70/30 torque distribution is enough,
