SPYSHOTS: Kia Picanto facelift prototype spotted

Kia-Picanto-2

Don’t worry, you’re not imagining things. Earlier in September, we reported of a minor facelift for the five-door Kia Picanto in which the new variant receives an updated front grille from its three-door sibling… and that’s about it. This time round, a camouflaged prototype hiding a bigger change has been spotted.

Though the camouflage has been thoughtfully applied, we can gather that the front end of the new Picanto is set to receive an updated front end to bring it in line with Kia’s current design language. Expect a front grille to mirror that of the one found on the Venga, Sorento and perhaps even the KX3 concept.

Changes at the back are minimal from what is deduced. Look close enough and hints of a more contemporary-looking rear lamp design can be picked out. Apart from that, it’s business as usual with the Picanto. Unfortunately, our photographer couldn’t get close enough for an interior shot.

Perhaps the biggest change will be presented in terms of power upgrades. The Kia Picanto on sale in Malaysia makes do with a 1.2 litre Kappa four-cylinder engine which produces 87 hp and 120 Nm of torque. The mill is coupled to either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. Find out how it drives here.

  • for KIA..I still like the Schneider first editions.Cerato to me is not as appealing as the 1st gen forte.same with picanto.2014 version is still the best looking.

Europe are one of Kia and Hyundai major markets, so no surprise to test the cars there.
P1 also test the Iriz in Europe just to follow the crowd, this is call ‘Kia-Su’ in Hokkien speak.
