Chinese website Autohome has posted this solitary shot of the next-gen F48 BMW X1 – the SUV’s face seems to have been brought in line with its bigger X siblings, featuring new headlamps, a prominent kidney grille and xLine-specific bumper accents. And check out those snowflake alloys!

Based on the UKL platform used by the new MINI and 2 Series Active Tourer, the new X1 will be front-wheel drive and transverse-engined for the first time – so there should be more space inside than in the outgoing E84. We can also expect xDrive four-wheel drive versions in the near future – and maybe an X2 ‘coupe’? Then there’ll finally be X1-7, uninterrupted.

Engines and gearboxes available on the 2 Series Active Tourer should be offered here, including 1.5 litre B38 three-cylinder and 2.0 litre B48 four-cylinder petrol motors, diesel mills, a six-speed manual, a six-speed auto and an eight-speed auto. Expect a full reveal sometime next year.
