Earlier today, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia announced that its first half sales performance for 2015 was its best ever – sales for the first six months of the year totalled 5,163 units, a 53% jump from 3,366 units for the same period in 2014.
The first half of 2015 saw four consecutive record-breaking months, with June being the best-ever month in MBM’s history – the month saw 1,212 cars sold.
The locally-assembled C-, E- and S-Class models made up for the largest segment of the pie, with 3,787 units shifted, a jump of 62% over last year. Leading the way for the trio was the W212 E-Class facelift, which sold 1,967 units over the six months, aided no doubt by the introduction of the E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid.
The W205 C-Class, the 2015 World Car of the Year, chipped in with 1,104 units, while sales of the W222 S-Class amounted to 719 units, giving the S-Class a remarkable hike of 419% over the first half of last year (the W222 was only introduced in Malaysia in March 2014).
Elsewhere, the rest of the model range saw volume increase by 32% to 1,348 over that of the first half of 2014 (which was 1,019 vehicles). Of the marque’s compacts, the W176 A-Class was the leading performer, with 484 units sold, followed by the GLA-Class with 307 units.
At the press briefing to announce the performance results, MBM also announced that it is continuing to put in investment in its retail network nationwide as well as into its production facilities in Pekan.
Production rate has been increased, according to MBM president and CEO Roland Folger. “The implementation of a double shift in Pekan means that we are now able to fulfill orders in a shorter time,” he said, citing the S-Class as an example. “From an initial production rate of four cars a day, we are now building 12 units a day.”
Meanwhile, more good news for Mercedes-AMG fans, who can look forward to having more than the AMG GT S here – it was mentioned at the briefing that the Mercedes-AMG C 63 will be making its way to Malaysia later this year. The car, along with the baseline AMG GT, will be part of a brigade of offerings tagged “Mercedes-Benz Dream Cars” to be introduced here.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
incoming bash from bimmer sales people n fanboy in 3…2….1….
In Malaysia you can talk lah, worldwide we Audi crash Mercedes like a coconut crashing machine crashing coconut.
Hahaha!
Audi – glorified VW
nuff said!
inb4 Maslan say rakyat bole beli Mercedes, mana ada tertekan dengan GST.
It is no wonder why MBM doesn’t need to give any discount, free service, attractive and nice packages or anything.
Even if they package the car with unattractive and useless features, Malaysian’s will still crawl to MBM dealers just to buy one of their cars. So true the fact that people actually book the C Class without even seeing the car.
A casing point is the new C250. They removed the command online with DVD and Web access and make do with the crappy Audio 20 unit with a basic stereo system. Removing the intelligent lights system with high beam assist which was previously available in the last generation of C250 and give people the awful Airmatic panel and useless Airbalance package.
Common MBM, offer your customers good and attractive packages. Even your Singapore counterpart is offering the intelligent LED lights and power boot system and that just for the C200 let alone the C250!
1MDB, falling ringgit value, GST, high personal debt, all these has no impact on Malaysians as evidenced by more people buying Mercedes Benz compared to Iriz.
This shows our government policy is sound and good for economy
No choice lah. Iriz more expensive to service than Benz. Even taxi drivers complain Proton is expensive to maintain
simple fact:
1. we have BMW – looking outdated and dull in and out.
2. we have Benz A-Class, Benz become so cheap.
3. we are not Volkswagen – the lousy Germany Brand.
ohh please. 2. BMW have 1 series & Audi have A1. Trio German Marque become cheap already.
poor man:”malaysia is experiencing economics crisis”
rich man:”crisis?what crisis?”
now mercedes is selling cars more than proton? sapa ckp ekonomi malaysia tak bagus? hahahaha…
It’s not a surprise though.
With the E class and S class being really cheap – heck why buy a recon S class when you can have a hybrid one brand new?
The thing Merc does need to do though, is to make sure they can keep up their aftersales. Don’t end up like another Volkswagen. Has this affected BMW? Sort of, to a certain extent, you can see BMW is indeed taking note of the MB presence with their new year full worry free manufacturer warranty and maintenance, as well as the promotions they seem to be throwing around.
But the market itself has changed, a lot. Gone are the days back in 2008-2010 where for 160k, people will buy a Camry, even those young execs who can afford it, as there weren’t any “affordable” Mercs and BMWs. In fact, you can see how a 525i E60 was almost 460k when new, but a new 528i is almost 420k new – a good 40k difference in price, despite the currency being stronger in the past. Same goes for the Merc E class.
But MB came into the market with the right timing and right products. BMW will still have their loyal bunch who will still buy their products because they prefer the styling or driving experience – it’s the same why we see people buying say the Mazda6 over the Honda Accord 2.4, both are great cars with good safety and reasonably good to drive, but the beauty of each product still remains in the eye of the owner. Having said that, its good to see competition in this field now. Cause after all consumers win. Just see the new 1 series, how it has better features standard than before.
GST? Falling ringgit? Loan hard to get??
All Bullshit lah…
Malaysia is doing very well.
Congrats to MBM. But is this passenger cars only or including commercial vehicles?
