Toyota Aqua (Prius c) tops JDM sales so far in 2015; Honda Jazz third, Mazda 2 seventh and HR-V ninth

The Toyota Prius c is Japan’s hottest model, as figures show. Badged domestically as the Toyota Aqua, the compact hybrid vehicle is the best selling vehicle in the land of the rising sun for the first half of the year 2015, retaining its sales lead from last year.

This is according to the sales report released by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association. In the passenger car category, a total of 121,240 units of the Aqua has been shifted in the first six months.

The biggest factor that contributed a great deal to the Toyota Aqua’s success, is perhaps its fuel efficiency amongst its hybrid rivals – it’s the best, when matched up against its contenders. The Aqua is claimed to have a record fuel consumption figure of 37.0 km/l on the JC08 cycle.

Its older cousin the Toyota Prius, ranks number two, with 71,401 units moved, which sees it overtaking the Honda Fit (Jazz). Presently, a total of 67,490 units have been sold, pushing the Jazz down into third place. Other notable entries in the list include the Mazda Demio (Mazda 2) in seventh with 43,634 units, and the Honda Vezel/HR-V in ninth (38,218 units).

Prius C is the best seller model for so long, definitely it is good. Those who bullshit sing song on the battery, they didn’t even sit in a hybrid before. First gen US prius is recond to Mongolia and Cambodia and the local still drive without worry.

When fuel price reach RM2.50, these guys will secretly call me looking for used hybrids.

Now you will blame UMW why it is so expensive in Malaysia (RM150k)! Thanks to Proton!

You need to change battery after 300k km only. And the battery cost less than RM10k, much cheaper than your conventional automatic/cvt gearbox.

  • Worst car ever driven. Noisy electric motor, noisy when switch from motor to engine, super light electric steering wheel, too light until it sways when the wind blows on tall bridges, interior design and plastic quality bad, very slow at climbing hills.

Good: fuel consumption excellent… 3.4L/100km, cool real time diagram of the car showing the power going from motor/engine to wheels, very fast acceleration from 0km/h.
