On several occasions already, we’ve shown you pictures of the coming all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class prototype in its sedan form, giving you glimpses of things to come from the next-generation W213. Here then, is your first look at the estate version of the car.
Dubbed internally as the S213 (‘W’ for sedan, ’S’ for estate), the E-Class Estate prototype here continues wearing very heavy camo just like we’ve seen on the snapped sedan prototypes, so it’s hard to describe the car in too much detail.
A look at the rear-end reveals a small glimpse of the tail lights, which doesn’t stray too far from that already presented in the new lighting for the W213 (front and rear). Move your eyes lower, and you can spot the same two trapezoidal exhaust tips of the car, finished in chrome, just like on the sedan. Even the wheels on this estate are of the same multi-spoke set spotted on the sedan prototypes.
At the front, the two-bar front grille with the three-pointed star in the middle suggests that this is also the sportier ‘Avantgarde’ design line of the car – we haven’t yet seen a car with the bonnet star. Up top, where the car is fully exposed, roof rails in a shade of silver are apparent.
On top of that, what we can tell you is that just like its sedan sibling, the E-Class Estate will ride on Mercedes-Benz’s latest Modular Rear Architecture (MRA), the same underpinnings common to other rear-wheel drive cars from the brand, such as the all-new C-Class and S-Class.
Engine choices for the all-new E-Class shouldn’t be too much of a surprise once they’re revealed, with a selection of four and six cylinder mills brought forwards. We do however expect to see a lot new with the latest iteration of the mighty AMG E 63, which is expected to drop its current 5.5-litre biturbo V8 and pick up the newer 4.0-litre biturbo V8 endorsed by the brand’s flagship sports car, the AMG GT, and the new AMG C 63 variants.
New tech will include items such as new Remote Parking Pilot feature, NFC keyless entry, and next-gen safety features that the brand has already unveiled. We’ll have to wait on a full debut to properly reveal all there is to the W213 E-Class and its Estate sibling – we understand that it’s a mere matter of months now.

Ah the new hearse for Nirvana Land! Seriously I love wagons and they are so suitable for me but while I am still deciding between an A6 Avant or 528i Wagon… i must say all the salesmen tried to get me to look at the mercedes E wagons and I just could not stand the funeral stigma and the coffin carrier looks. I know its probably more reliable and comfortable than the A or B but that mental block… I can’t remove it. Am I strange?
