Yup, yet another Back to the Future throwback, but this remake is actually pretty cool. His name is MARTY (that’s for Multiple Actuator Research Test bed for Yaw control!) and he drifts like a pro, without his driver or passenger needing to even lift a finger.
Created by Stanford University’s Revs Center, MARTY started life a regular old DeLorean DMC-12, but the team has done substantial work to modify and modernise the famous Giugiaro-designed, gullwing-doored low slung coupe.
According to Engadget, the DeLorean, built from 1981 to 1983, is far from futuristic today, and had severe limitations – it was understeering, so the lads threw in a power steering motor and rack, for instance. The original car’s PRV V6 engine has been replaced by an electric motor, too.
A drift machine is far from the regular idea of an autonomous car of the future, which makes us question the motivation behind MARTY.
“We think automated vehicles should be able to execute any manoeuvre within the physical limits of the vehicle to get out of harm’s way,” Revs Center director Chris Gerdes told Wired. Seems legit!

Back to The Future is not only about movie but also give an inspiration to us. Even we are not achieve what in the movie but the Future is still there we can make it happen. We are waiting the car that can fly, no more potholes to deal hopefully no tolls.
I wonder when an autonomous racing car will start racing with humans?
Waste of hardware material!. Wil encourage public start drifting on any vehicles they can get their hands on.. :P
