2015 Toyota Fortuner Crusade

The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been awarded a five-star rating in the latest round of testing conducted by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). Already on sale in Australia, the Toyota Hilux-based SUV is available in three variants with all models rated with the same score – 34.05 out of a maximum of 37.

To recap, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is equipped as standard with dual front airbags along with side chest and curtain units as well as a driver’s knee airbag. Elsewhere, electronic brake distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assist (EBA) is also featured as standard across all three variants.

For the frontal offset test, the Fortuner scored a total of 13.45 points out of a maximum 16. Even more impressive is the fact that the 2016 Toyota Fortuner was awarded 16 points out of a maximum of 16 for the side impact test – it also scored a maximum two out of two points for the pole test.

Pedestrian protection, meanwhile, was rated ‘Good’ as was whiplash protection – the Fortuner was scored a total of 30.17 points out of a maximum of 36 for the former category. The Aussie-spec 2016 Toyota Fortuner is powered by a 2.8 litre 1GD-FTV turbodiesel engine with 174 hp and 420/450 Nm of torque depending on the choice of transmission. Prices kick off at AU$47,990 (RM147,889) to AU$59,990 (RM184,870).
