Yet another debutant at the 44th TMS was the Suzuki Ignis, seen earlier in Ignis Trail Concept guise, which reworks the new compact crossover into a more rugged-looking adventure vehicle. Less limelight on the series production Ignis, but it was still trumped up considerably at the show.
Suzuki says that the Ignis, which was accurately previewed by the iM-4 concept from Geneva 2015, offers a strong presence and looks that stand out in any scene. In keeping with the crossover brief, design elements include a high eye-point setting, large diameter wheels and ample road clearance for “sure-footing on snowy roads and rough tracks.”
The 3,700 mm long, 1,660 mm wide and 1,595 mm tall offering is powered by a 1.2 litre Dualjet inline-four mill, with a mild hybrid system in tow. There’s no mention of what the K12B puts out for the car, but it should likely be 94 PS and 120 Nm, as seen on its deployment in the Swift. The mill is mated to a CVT gearbox, and the Ignis will be available in two- or four-wheel drive forms.
The interior is rather tasteful – there’s very little clutter, and materials feel good to the touch and sight. Everything in the front fascia is cleanly presented, from the central free-standing display screen and bold-looking climate control console to the highly legible instrument cluster. Very much a solid – and thoroughly understated – outing, this one.
