The Toyota Previa is almost a decade old now, but it is not about to be retired just yet. According to reports, the MPV, which is known as the Estima in Japan, will undergo a facelift, and the new model is expected to go on sale on June 6, 2016 in Japan. This speculative render from Mag-X previews just what the new Estima will look like.
As you can see, the JDM-spec 2016 Estima is slated to sport a more aggressive front fascia featuring sharper headlamps, a new hexagonal grille and bumper. Mag-X also took the liberty of providing the Estima with a two-tone exterior paintjob. No view of the car’s interior but expect new upholstery options and an upgraded equipment list.
Reports also indicate that the Toyota Estima will be available as a hybrid-only model in Japan. This could see the 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine being dropped as an option there. In Malaysia, the Previa was sold with a 2AZ-FE 2.4 litre four-cylinder that delivered 170 PS and 224 Nm of torque.
The 2AZ-FE engine is listed option for the current Japanese market Estima, along with a hybrid powertrain that makes use of a 2AZ-FXE 2.4-litre (150 PS and 190 Nm) with two electric motors – a 17 hp unit for the front wheels and a 24 hp one for the rear wheels.
