A pre-production test mule of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet has been spied for the very first time. The drop-top Benz is still largely under wraps, but it’s apparent that like the new C-Class Cabriolet, this model will also feature a fabric roof.
Speaking of which, thanks to the already-revealed C-Class cabrio and Mercedes-Benz’s apparent modular styling approach, there shouldn’t be too many design surprises at all. As it should be for the upcoming E-Class Coupe as well, we expect to see a diamond radiator front grille with a single lourve up front, a standard-fit AMG Line exterior and tail lights slimmer than the sedan’s.
The only difference between the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will be that the latter will feature a power-retractable fabric soft-top. Inside, everything you’ve seen in the W213 E-Class sedan will be carried over into the Cabriolet, just like it will be on the E-Class Coupe.
However, the exclusivity of the cabrio means that we’re more likely to see the E-Class’ dual 12.3-inch screens featured on the dash, rather than the analogue instruments and smaller eight-inch central display screen. And, as it is with open-top Benz motoring these days, Airscarf neck-level heating and automatic Aircap draught-stop systems will be available.
Just like it has done with C 63 cabrio, we expect the AMG division to get its hands on the body style as well. Yes, the first-ever drop-top AMG E 63 has been rumoured to join its sedan, coupe and estate siblings.
