Citroen C6 sedan for China, first images emerge

Citroen C6 leaked images-01

Live images of the China-only Citroen C6 have emerged online ahead of its Beijing reveal. This follows leaked sketches and a teaser of the new Citroen C6, which also popped up online previously. Codenamed X81, the flagship sedan signifies the return of the large luxury sedan after the last Citroen C6 ended production in 2012.

Unlike the previous C6, which had very unique curves, the new C6 sports a more mainstream design. Immediately noticeable is the large front grille that’s connected to the headlamps – reminiscent of the set seen on the Numero 9 concept. A long chrome strip runs through the rear, intersecting the taillamps. Inside, the C6 appears to sport a digital instrument cluster and a big touchscreen at the centre console.

Similar to Dongfeng’s A9 sedan, the C6 here sits on PSA’s Efficient Modular Platform (EMP2), which is also the same platform used on the Peugeot 308, 408 and the Citroen C4 Picasso. It’s also expected to have a new suspension instead of Citroen’s Hydractive 3+ hydropneumatic suspension system.

As for power, no official details have been disclosed yet, but reports from China indicated that the Citroen C6 will be offered with a range of 1.8 litre and 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines. A hybrid variant of the C6 is also reportedly in the plans as well.

To be sold exclusively in China and not elsewhere, a more luxurious version is said to be coming next year and will be sold as a DS9. On that note, the Citroen C6 will be manufactured by Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen and is said to be priced from about 200,000 to 300,000 yuan (RM120k-RM180k).

  • Man the old C6 was brilliant because of it’s quirky yet elegant design. I don’t see what’s so special about this. Plain design, no hydractive suspension & it doesn’t look special like the old one did
