Two Proton recalls announced – Inspira for indicator switch, Exora CPS for fuel line inspection

This just in. Proton has announced two recalls, one each for the Proton Inspira and the Proton Exora CPS.

The Inspira recall is related to a recall made by Mitsubishi Motors, which makes the Lancer that the Inspira is based on. It is for defective right turn indicator switches. All 20,330 units of the Inspira in Malaysia, made between 2010 and 2014 are included.

As for the Exora CPS, it’s being called in for a precautionary inspection of the fuel line in the powertrain compartment, Proton says. Around 90,000 units of the Exora CPS 1.6 are involved, made between 2009 and 2015.

Owners are advised to make an appointment with a Proton service centre for inspection. All labour and parts costs, if any, will be borne by Proton. For more info, call Proton’s customer care hotline at 1800-888-398 or email to [email protected].

  • Good on you Proton, for having the conscience and guts to recall your defective products. This shows that Proton is actually starting to fix the problems with their vehicles and are not ashamed to admit the defects in their vehicles. They seem to be following the footsteps of world class car manufacturers. Kudos to the new management team!

      Datuk Vika,
At least they have a conscience to recall after whacking 1.5 B.
Maybe this is to give the Proton service centres some revenue to fix the defects instead of idling.
There r too many proton dealer service centres now.
Some are crying for business as warranty servicing for proton cars are trickling in only.
But amazingly,no one has been laid off yet.

Defective indicators? Meh, nearly 1/3 of the Malaysian drivers I see on the road don’t use them anyway.

My inspira is 5 yrs old, 130000kms. No problem with the signal indicator. And I’m not willing to risk secondary defect from the inspection work.

Good job Proton. This is how a mature car company deals with problems… they admit it, and offer to fix it (free of charge) for owners. In the past, when Proton was owned by Mitsubishi and Khazanah, the attitude was different… cover it up, play it down, don’t acknowledge it etc.. Some recalls were made, but too often, that was not the case.

In a country where government and corporate accountability these days is fast fading, it’s very reassuring to see Proton make recalls at all. They could have just ignored the old models, like they used to… but they didn’t… that has to count for something.

I hope Proton will continue with their recall practices. Some people might think it’s pointless, merely solidifying their preconceptions of Proton cars being problematic, low quality etc.. But educated people and industry players will understand that more recalls will surely help improve Proton’s image. Recalls go hand in hand with aftersales… so if Proton continues to slack there, then their efforts would be wasted. But I’m sure they already know this. Don’t just fix the cars, fix the workers’ attitude as well.

Ernmm mitsubishi triggered the recall not proton. The exora is just a check. Most likely they will say nothing wrong move along.

@ Reject shop : Correct, it was Mitsubishi who called it, but Proton could have just ignored them (like they used to 10 or 15 years back)… at least, until people started to complain. Basically, they could have ‘buat tak tahu’… but they didn’t. So kudos to the current Proton management for their efforts.

And how sure are you that Proton would simply dismiss the Exora’s problem like that ? Proton wouldn’t go through all the trouble with a nationwide (plus ASEAN) recall for nothing. Surely, they would want to fix what they can.

@ 747 : If I were to list down all the times the ‘previous’ Proton (under Khazanah and MMC/ Mahaleel era/ pre-Syed Zainal/ mid-1990s to mid-2000s/ a.k.a ‘The dark times’ a.k.a. ‘Ambitious, but rubbish era’) did not make recalls when they should have, or downplayed problems, that list would take forever to complete.

But here’s a very strong example of how the old management regarded recalls : http://autoworld.com.my/news/2000/09/20/PERDANAS-MADE-IN-95-BEING-RECALLED/

If I’m not mistaken, Chips Yap wrote that article. Hopefully, this comment is not marked as spam for the URL above… or is not ‘approved’ for whatever reason.
