SPYSHOTS: Next-gen Volkswagen CC seen testing

Volkswagen CC next-gen spyshots 5

The next-generation Volkswagen CC has been spotted undergoing testing thank to our spy photographers. Our first look at the new CC reveals that the car will see a significant update to its styling over its predecessor.

Although heavily camouflaged here, cues from Volkswagen’s Sport Coupe Concept GTE can be clearly seen, including the coupe-like, fastback roofline, tall rear deck and wide front grille. Viewed from the side, the test mule certainly appears to be longer than the previous CC (said to be around 4,900 mm), and should see a bump in wheelbase (reportedly by 50 mm) as a result.

For reference, the concept measures 4,869 mm long, 1,864 mm wide and 1,407 mm tall, making it 102 mm longer, 32 mm wider and 49 mm lower than the B8 Passat. In terms of wheelbase, the concept’s measures 3,020 mm long, which is quite a bit longer than the Passat’s 2,791 mm.

In other areas, the prototype’s dual-LED front headlamps and LED rear tail lamps also appear to be inspired by the concept, along with the placement of test mule’s exhaust tips. Large wheels are also fitted here, which gives the new CC a sportier stance like the concept. Barring any interior shots, we can expect the interior of the new CC to be largely similar to the B8 Passat.

Underneath the new skin, the next CC will ride on the same MQB platform as the B8 Passat and Mk 7 Golf. Powertrain options will likely include a range of four-cylinder TSI or TDI engines as found in the regular Passat range, with four-wheel drive as an option. Given the fact that the Sport Coupe Concept GTE packs a plug-in hybrid powertrain, it could be likely that the upcoming CC will be offered with one as well.
