Proton Saga Aeroback rendered – a Skoda-like wagon

saga-wagon-theo-2

Here’s something interesting from Mr Rendering, Theophilus Chin. It’s what he calls the “Proton Saga Aeroback”, but it’s unlike the past Aerobacks we know from Proton. It is instead a wagon version of the latest 2016 Proton Saga. Nice, but it should probably be called “Proton Saga Brickback” instead.

It’s clear where Theo got inspiration from. Besides the fact that the man is a Skoda fan, the rear end of this Saga Wagon looks a lot like the Czech brand’s Rapid Spaceback wagon. Minus the Skoda’s C-shaped tail lamps, plus the Saga’s BMW M Sport-style rear bumper. He also “painted” the roof black. What do you think? Looks pretty neat, doesn’t it?

Theo concedes that “it’s unlikely such a design will appeal to the Malaysian market”, although there’s precedent for an affordably priced wagon that sold reasonably well in Malaysia – the Nissan AD Resort offered by Tan Chong in the early 1990s. The Y10 was not just popular with people who used it for business; it even caught on with the car customisation community.

A cheap, local Nissan Sunny California anyone? Proton must have thought of it before too, as spyshots of a “Saga BLM Wagon” (pics attached below) was spotted in June. The idea probably didn’t go very far, and an MPV like the upcoming rebadged Suzuki Ertiga should have wider appeal among the masses.

    Ouch, this is so wrong.
The original Aeroback was’t a wagon, but a sportier spin of the sedan in a ‘fastback’ configure.

Chin, you got it so wrong, and is painful to see. (I am agreeing with you that it doesn’t appeal to Malaysian market)

Thats the way it should have been.

They should have made a Preve Wagon and a Saga Wagon instead of that rather pointless Suprima and Iriz.

Malaysians like a big boot for balik Kampung.

Its been 20 nearly years since we saw a viable replacement for the AD Resort and the Kia Rio.

And where is the light commercial Exora?

If Proton is smart, it could design a common design for both a wagon and pickup. In Thailand there was a pickup version of the Nissan ad resort. There are beautiful wagons out there like the bmw e46 and e90 touring, chrysler 300c wagon and others that Proton can benchmark.

Looks quite nice actually. With a bit of BMW’s Hofmeister kink. But the original Saga Aeroback (used to drive a used one in the late 90s) was a hatchback, rather than a wagon. Wouldn’t mind seeing the name revived though.

This is just pure ugliness to the next level. Like canned tuna mixed with coconut husks and gave birth to an orang utan with 4 eyes, 6 legs and 3 starnds of long hair. Can vomit to the max.
